Does anyone know the best way to go about turning your regular old street car into a super stock racer? I know it will be years of work, but I have wanted to do that for some time now. Any bit of info you have is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Does anyone have any ideas on what to do about putting a cage inside a 1994 camaro with t-tops?

if you are interested in racing S/S pick up a copy of the NHRA rule book, there is a ton info there

It fits in like a regular roll cage. The bars just go across the opening and the t-tops just fit over it. Build up the motor with a cam, under drive pulleys, head work for better flow, bigger valves, headers, high flow catalytic converters, exhaust system, and poly graphite bushings, high performance shocks and struts, jetted carb, or larger fuel injectors, fuel pump, ecu, K&N filter and so on.

in S/S you have to run stock cams and stock heads etc.

Thanks yall for the input! Im looking to buy a computer programmer for my car. I went to the fbody website and the OBDI LT1 PCM programmer caught my eye. Can I use that on my 1994 z28 camaro?

Well, I would go to the nearest Divisional race and start talking to the guys that are winning in their classes. Then find a good Forum, www.superstockforum.com or something like that but ask a bunch of question about the car you are going to build and see what folks can help you with. I think there is a small membership fee for the forum but it is well worth it for the invaluable savings in time and money.
Good Luck!

Not exactly, in Stock Eliminator, you have to run stock lift cams, but the duration can be as much as you want. In SuperStock, you can use different camshafts, port the heads, etc.

Hey no sweat, I'm poor as well. Nice running Camaro you have there. Did you do the work yourself?

Yup, I did everything (except the machine work). I see you are a Mopar guy as well, thats where my heart trully lies but I sold my 69 Super Bee to move on to other projects. Here is a pic though

Man, I know what you mean! In the last 8 years I've sold a 69 Roadrunner, a 68 Coronet R/T, and a 70 Challenger. I should have kept all of them!
I do all my own work except for the machining as well. I built a cheap little 87 Camaro a while back, budget 350 with 9.5:1 compression, and I replaced the 700r since it was smoked, with a TH350. The car ran low 13's with a 600 holley. That was back in 97/98 when the first SS's were coming out with the new LS1's. It was fun beating up on those guys for a while!:D

You both have some really nice camaros, too bad you got sold the other cars. I sink more money into it just keepin it running much less doing any mods to it. I got a 94 and it just seems to keep giving me problems. You guys do excellent work, love the cars!!!

Since you have rebuilding for some time now, got any advice (seems like you're one of the few people that repsonds on this thing) on where to start when rebuilding a camaro. All stock runs pretty well, but Im sure needs to be gutted and redone. Got any tips or advice?? Thanks!

Personally I like to focus on the suspension first, often times people overlook it in the quest for insane power. One you get it to hook you can add power, you would be suprised how fast you can go on a realtivly small amount of HP. Case in point, I helped build an NMRA Factory Stock Mustang, the car makes about 320 or so rwhp and has been 11.7's on a 3250 lb race weight. The car is actually pretty boring in that the race is over after the 60 foot mark.

JD1969 thanks for responding, that really helps. There just arent enough hard resources out there when it comes to the steps of rebuilding a car. Do you race at Gateway Intl Raceway in IL? Your pics looked kinda familiar.

I might be down there for a Ford event but no I have not been there. I race at US41 in IN, RT66 in Joliet and GLD in WI.
