They only had a contract with Holden in Australia for three years, and so they do not have a 2007 model in the works. There is speculation on what the next model will be, or if they will have another model.

New airbag regulations ment completely redesigning the interior as well, plus sales were less than great. The new camaro coming out is GM's next big thing and a slightly overweight grand am with a v8 just isnt needed anymore.

one reason they canceled the gto was because they were not selling enough of them

Bad (really bad) sales for it. Had a great engine, but a not so great design. They needed to go a little more radical than they did. It looked like all the other Pontiacs from the last 5 years (not a good thing). HOpefully the next version that they say may come out with the new Camaro will be a good design. If it doesnt look good, it wont sell.

yes, i agree the design was horrible, all it was is the grand prix but a larger body, seemed like pontiac didnt even take 5 minutes to design the car, but it did have a good engine, but the price was way to high

Yeah they really didn't sell. I think the problem was that it was about 5-10 thousand more than a typical family car, and gas prices are just a b**** . They really are nice cars inside and out and could be used as a daily driver, but I think Pontiac really failed in the advertising department, with the emphasis on the G6 and solstice. I have just now started seeing tv ads for the GTO so maybe Pontiac is just trying to sell off the rest of them off, I really don't know. But yeah, its a shame they really were badass. I watched a couple of them pull the quarter just as fast as my dads friends 70 with a 400 ram air.

The same exact reason the new Camaro will fizzle away. A Bad Remake of a Legend. Hardcore GTO fans had to be hurt badly when the new goat was released.

the new camaro is not going to fizzle away

pontiac didnt spend 5 seconds designing the car its made by holden in australia and it still is available there under the name monero or monaro not sure but it wont have the 6.0 ls2 it will have the 5.7 that was in the 04 model and will run you about $50,000.

Actually the Monaro is not being produced any more. And believe it or not, it sold less in Aus. than the GTO did here. Seeing everybody's comments about how it wasn't flashy enough makes me think, well duh! The original wasn't designed to be flashy either. I love a non-descript and very powerful car. I can't be the only one that loves sleepers. All I know is that they are not very popular, and they did not produce a lot of them, so it is cool to see them when you do.

So GM can make more gas hog trucks, plus there is more money to be made on trucks.

Saint_Ali

and so GM can recall 38,000 of those trucks for engine fires

It was a Holden Monaro from Australia with a split grille, that's why it didn't sell. Yes, it was/is a great performance car but in the end, Pontiac didn't bring back the GTO, it went to Australia and brought back a Holden Monaro.

yeah, the gto was the original muscle car, you cant bring back the original muscle car and make it look like a foreign vehicle. even thought the original gto was an engine and some badges on a tempest and wasnt all that flashy.

The New Camaro will fizzle away if GM brings it out in the format They have as a Concept Car. Way too radical for the masses. Retro design is One thing, Like the Mustang and Challenger which are Retro but with a Retro design Concept in Mind. That's why the Mustang is so successful. The design is great and appeals to the masses. The Camaro concept is a great CONCEPT, but won't appeal to the General Public as a everyday car, which it will have to do to be successful. That extremeness is what led to the downfall of the 4th gen and last Camaro. It appealed to the Hot Rodder but was far too clumbsy and harsh riding for the Masses. Look at the last truly successful Camaro. 1969 was the last GREAT selling Camaro because it appealed to everybody. I cannot ever remember meeting anyone, even Ford Guys, Who didn't like that car. Use History as a lesson GM and build another '69 Camaro. Soften that concept up to look modern retro without being too radical ( what's up with that grille? ) and make the Camaro the success it should be. Make it better looking, faster, better handling than the Mustang ( You know how to do it, look at the Corvette ) and You will have a great selling car. Use the same platform for the Pontiac version, Call it what You will, GTO, Trans Am or whatever and get back in this game. Don't screw it up again.

I'm a bow tie bubba just like most of you all but I have to say I fell in love with the GTO. I'm a young guy at only 21 but one of my best friends happends to be a 50+ year old man who happends to live next door to me. We are both car freaks I'm the Chevy boy and he's a Pontiac boy. He bought a 99 Formula back when it was new and that made me buy an 02 SS so him and I were in a bit of a little war. So once I started putting a little mods on the car he decided to buy a damn GTO!!!! Instead of modding his car he just upgraded it and I loved it what a badass car.

i know i was joking, cause they used pretty much the same body on the gto as on the grand am

Why'd they axe the Goat? Same reason they brought it out, sales. Maybe some mook upstairs realized that, as bad as the car is, there is already a GM "Performance-Niche" car, the 'Vette. And at the Goat's price, one would be better off to get the 'Vette.

As far as the new Camaro, I'd say that it will be just slightly better than the Mustang (I just pray that it's lighter than that 3800lb behemoth), as it has plenty of time to get tweeked into just-a-step-betterness that the camaro has almost always enjoyed. Personally, I love the styling Chevy has showed interest in so far for the new one, and hope they stick with it. It has the loooooong look of the newer models (Charger, Mustang) but is definately reminescent of all four previous generations. And, maybe we'll all be lucky and the new Maro will be cheaper than the Mustang and Charger/Challenger/Magnumetc, which would help sales out greatly...

yeah the gto was just not worth the 32k they were asking. Dont get me wrong the engine is great, along with the performance but it is in a car that looks like the grand prix. The camaro will be a great seller if it prices it at the mustang level. If they charge 32k no young people can afford cars like that. The design is perfect it is the marketing and price level what gm is gonna have to get right this time.

Hey man I liked the style of the GTO its one of those cars that looks like its just a family car the perfect sleeper. It dosen't have to speed lines like a camaro or corvette besides its got a big ass motor and it can fly

They are nice cars, but you can hardly pick them out from a pontiac line-up. I work for GM and the excitment at first was huge, but when we, and the customers, saw them that stopped. Plus sales never started.
