Got pulled over riday night doing 95 in a 45. I was racing a 03 GT, got him in second gear, then I saw the lights. I slowed down, pulled into the nearest parking lot , and the sheriff pulled me over, he let me off with a warning, because he goes to church with me. Man that was a close call.[8D]

lol nice one, i got a ticket a while ago for "fleeing from police" and "street racing". I was flying down I75..again and some punk in a magnum tried to catch up with me and WOT'ed it when the lights flashed i tried to slow down but the brakes "glazed over" which means either the metal got to hot or the brake fluid boilded but i made it a couple more miles down the highway before i could pull over and the cop was bitching his head off. But lucky you, and thats why you dont skip church

It may save you a lot of greif once you know you got caught if you pull over to the shoulder and wait for the cop. Tell the cop you are interested in his safety and did not want for him/her to have to chase you. Don't admit or voluinteer anything that may incriminate you. You might just get away with a warning. This is what cops do when they get caught speeding. Of course, the get no ticket.

The best radar detector out on the market is the valentine one. It will set you back about $399, but it is well worth it. it covers 360 degrees around your car. the only downside is it is illegal in some states.

so you dont race at the track, and you dont drive like an @$$hole on the street, so what good is that terminator doing you?? do you have it to pull tail? [8D]
Hisss04Cobra

Actually I just like "knowing" I could run it. I've been dumb and ran people on the street before, only tied a guy once, and well lost to a hayabusa. The tie was my fault, I explained that on this website when I first joined. Dad doesn't want me to take it to the track. I guess since it doesn't even have 5000 miles on it he doesn't want me to mess it up. Oh well not to long and i'll be 19 and I can get the car in my name!!! Woohoo...
Patrick
11-11-2005, 02:37 PM
you are a fortunate guy to have the car to begin with...i think that at your age, i would have "settled" for having a terminator that i wasnt allowed to race...
i had my old white car when i was in high school and stuff, and it was my DD, but at that time,i think that i was only running high 13s or so, but considering that it was in 1997, i was keeping right up with the stock cobras of the day...

Well my uisual dd is my 95 4runner, I didn't care about upgrading anything but the system in it. At one time I was hitting 163's on the meter. If you know what that means. Had 6 12' subs, with 3 1100 watt amps, 2 capacitators, and the avic-n1 headunit. Very, very, very, very tight cd player. Had a few things dynamated. (sound deadining).
Patrick
11-14-2005, 02:48 PM
wow..163 is very impressive...the system in my DD hit like 138 in my buddy's car...but i have it set up to last, not blow the windows out, but it will shake some windows with 2 12s, and a big ass amp...:D

Its just not worth street racing. There are strips everywhere - some IHRA sanctioned, some non-, where you can get by without the roll cages and so forth. And you WILL end up in jail if you street race. I learned this the easy way (watching other people get hauled off to jail). Just lucky though, and I cut it out 25 years ago. More important I taught my kids, right - particularly my youngest, who races the Camaro: can you imagine a 24 year old with a 700 RWHP Camaro that has no tickets, EVER?

I've gotten pulled for going like 70 in a 50, and my latest was like 49 in a 25. My last ticket sucked. I decided to fight it in court to get the $140 fine reduced, and maybe a point or so knocked off....the judge knocked my ticket down to 122.50, and charged me 27.50 in court costs. [:@]

See, it helps to have grey hair and look harmless. I'm 56 years old, 5 ft 9 at a stretch, and 20 lbs overweight. I got pulled over for doing 51 in and 35 in my vette (and I was, at least) - while the car had my custom license plate frame that says "LeMans C5R 427 c.i.d./Supercharged 640 HP" (since removed). The cop did a double take when he looked at me, called me, "Sir," and said "I thought I was after one of those young idiots."
I was polite and told him "Officer, I drive fast cars, but I don't drive fast." I insisted there must be a mistake.
Truly, at this point he muttered something about, "It must have been the Acura", and let me off.

Reading these posts brought to mind some of the insane stuff me and my friends used to do.
This is going back to the late 50's & early 60's. In those days license points hadn't been invented yet, and as long as you saw the judge and paid the fines you kept your license. Anyway, me and a buddy both owned 58 Impalas with 348 engines and when the 409 came out we both bought a new 409 from the local dealer and installed it in our cars. If you ever driven a 58 Chevy, you probaly noticed that the rear of the car danced around a lot. This was Chevy's first try at coil springs, and they left the panhard rod out allowing the rear of the body to move side to side over the rear axle. Very interesting at high speed.
On this particular night we decided to take a ride to the newly built Bob Moses Causeway & see if one car was better then the other. After about an hour of driving the cars flat out with the speedometer pegged, we pulled in a local diner to discuss the event. About 10 minutes later a cop shows up asking for the owners of the cars. Our friendly and not too swift waitress, pointed us out to the cop. He was pissed to no end, and said he was trying to catch up to us for the last 1/2 hour, and now we were going to pay for it. Eventually he calmed down and gave us tickets for holding a speed contest without a permit. A violation that was not part of the traffic code.
About a month later we go see the judge. He asked us why we did what we did, and we both fessed up and told him we were trying to find out which car was fastest. He scratched his chin for a while, and then stated that since we were honest about it, and had the "good sense?" to race in the middle of the night, he was going to let us go with a $30 fine. However, if we caused trouble again, he was going to tear up our license and force us to get a new one. In those days you could always go for the test and get a new license.
By the way, the speed limit on the causeway was 50 MPH and we were close to tripling it. The causeway was two lanes, one each way, with no place to go but in the water, but we figured it was OK to ride side by side, since no one was about to go or come from the beach at that time of night in winter.

The valentine one is supposedly the best on the market and ive heard that if you get a speeding ticket they pay it for you. Also there is a jammer out there that is for BMW's, it sends back to the gun 180 or some number like that and when you have your court date BMW sends a spokes person with you and claims that the car cant go that fast, so there had to be something wrong with the gun. Just thought you guys/girls might like to know.

Thankfully, i only have one ticket, 71 in a 55. But some of my friends, o lord. One those idiots drives a 2003 focus svt, he thinks it is the best thing on wheels. One night we were driving home from work and were racing. Its about 3am so dont worry no traffic. I was at about 95, and he was a little ways in front of me probaly 98 or so. The cop was on the other side of the median and we were coming up on a hill. I know its wrong but, common sense just says that a cop going 55 one way, and you pushin 100 the other= DONT STOP.
we got a little ways past him and i saw the lights. I just hit it even harder but my special ed friend, ( of course he drives a ford DUH) decided to stop. Now he has (had) never been pulled over so he got out of the car. Of course by this time i was long gone, powersliding down my street trying to get home and out the car ASAP. he says they pointed the guns at him and had him on the ground, but of course he tells big stories so.
moral= you cant be caught with a closeing speed of more than 150mph so just keep going, but were ever it is your going, get there and get off the street. i still laugh at him every time we pass a cop and are together.
