View Full Version : back end rebel72 02-01-2006, 08:24 PM what could i do to rise the back end up i want it to look mean looking its a 79 camaro wolfin81 02-01-2006, 10:29 PM Well you could use a shackle kit which you can buy from a local parts store or use air shocks. rebel72 02-01-2006, 11:07 PM What are some good upgrades for the rear v8chvyguy 02-02-2006, 02:14 PM I have air shocks on my '79 Z. They ride to firm. As soon as I get an origional set of rims for her, those shocks are comming off and the stock ride will be restored. wolfin81 02-02-2006, 08:36 PM can't you adjust the ride on your air shocks? like put a different amount of air in them? srry if i seem sarcastic long day v8chvyguy 02-04-2006, 12:22 AM I could lower the air press but then the tires rub. The previous owner thought it would be cool to put 15x10 reverse offset Cragars w/ 255/60's on the rear. the air shocks make that possible. It looks cocky but the car was designed to be a cruiser now it rides like a tank. Keep in mind that when you change the cars stance ie: raising the rear, you also change your front end alighnment. If anyones interested here's the specs that camaro's like to be set to:2 deg caster w/ .25 deg stagger .2 neg.camber. the factory specs suck 1 deg caster and .6 deg pos camber drives like sht don't let your alighnment shop set your camaro to these specs. wolfin81 02-04-2006, 05:05 AM wow thnx for the info!!! learned something new tonight v8chvyguy 02-04-2006, 11:36 PM I hate to admt this, but, those specs are very close to the DKM Macho T/A, remember them? SABSCAMARO 04-04-2006, 01:29 AM HEY V8CHVYGUY I'M GLAD I CAME HERE, I INSTALLED SIZE60 TIRES IN THE REAR AND I CAN'T DRIVE MY 68 THE QUARTER PANELS HIT WHEN I RUN INTO A SMALL BUMP ON THE STREET, PLEASE HELP. I DO HAVE NEW KYB SHOCKS v8chvyguy 04-06-2006, 01:02 AM What size tire did you install? 1969 SS 05-03-2006, 01:08 AM ORIGINAL: SABSCAMARO HEY V8CHVYGUY I'M GLAD I CAME HERE, I INSTALLED SIZE60 TIRES IN THE REAR AND I CAN'T DRIVE MY 68 THE QUARTER PANELS HIT WHEN I RUN INTO A SMALL BUMP ON THE STREET, PLEASE HELP. I DO HAVE NEW KYB SHOCKS I have had up to 255/60 on the back of my 69 (which has smaller wheelwells) and it works fine. they sit on a stock 8" wide rim. how are your rear springs? if they are the originals, they are probably sagging and that would be your problem. do not go with shakle extensions!! they are the worst cover-up for other problems....next to air shocks!!!! v8chvyguy 05-04-2006, 01:59 AM Mechanicly the car is all origional #'s matching. So, yes, the springs are definately sagged, but, what's making the tires rub is the 15x10 reverse offset rims. It's a 10" wide rim with 1.5" backspace. |
