Hello, I have an LS1 98 Z28 camaro convertible in the UK. I bought it last year when it was shipped to the UK and really love it.

Q1 Recently the service engine light comes on all the time, to which my local garage tells me its the secondary air pump that is recorded as faulty although when he checks it says it is working OK. He mentions also that it will not damage the car in any way and it will not effect the performance. Any comments greatly appreciated. (mileage 87k miles). Once reset it will come back on again and sometimes it will go off for a day then stay on for around 2 weeks. He also mentions it is an expensive part to have replaced (in the UK).

Q2. Silly question, but how good are the speakers as standard in a Z28. I recently bought some 'infinity' speakers to replace them from a car audio shop telling me that they would be better but my local american car garage wasn't sure. He mentioned that the speakers may have some amplifier built in or something. NB In the UK not many people understand what a Z28 is let alone what comes as standard. Again any advice greatly appreciated.

The air pump doesn't look like it's too bad of a job. Hard to tell with my picture. The pump is pretty expensive though, 280 dollars us.

As for the speakers, the convertable has regular speakers in back, no amp. Only the fixed top had the amp. It and the speaker are located in the quarter trim. As a convertable doesnt' have the quarter trim, they didn't put them in there.
