The Camaro vs. Mustang debate/conflict has been going on for ages but why hasn't Ford developed a rival for the Vett? I suppose the GT could be a good rival but it's $151,245 price tag is a little hefty and I think it's unfair to compare the two. What yall think?

i think that fords comeback to the vette would be the cobras...

I remember the first generation cobra's. 50 grand and no warrenty. Needless to say, they didn't sell very well.

Originally, WAY back when, the T-bird was the vette's rival: in '55 both were 2-seater, V8 sports cars, the vette slightly faster, the T-bird a bit classier. Ford took the T-bird one way and never really looked back, going softer and eventually to 4 seats (in '58).

The original Cobra's (by which I mean the Caroll Shelby AC conversions with 260/289 and eventually 427 cubic inches) were direct challenges to the 'vette in the performance arena.

But other than that Ford really never has contested the 'vette. I think the real reason is that they just don't copy or follow. Except for the minivan, and eventually their giving in to the Suburban thing and briefly building the Excursion, they really never copy their rivals, and do more leading in market identification than following: they invented the pony car and for the past 40 years have kept it in its nche and not tried to make in a 'vette (although generations of owners have spent thousands trying to. . . ). They have sense enough not to copy the PT cruiser (like GM did), etc. Will they copy GM and make a Solstice/Sky competitor? I think not (besides, in some sense Ford has the Miata, if you count Mazda as part of Ford).

Well it seems Ford is always a step ahead of GM. But I like it that way, it keeps GM constantly thinking (or more recently not thinking at all) so it makes it interesting. but like you were saying, Retro Stang in turn produced Retro Camaro (and Challenger), so i cant complain :D

Ha Ha, you guys are crazy. He has some random posts. The tbird was the competitor but I think GM is a much better company. They build stronger cars and they usually have higher proformance. GM also didnt knock out thousands of 4 cyl camaro's like the mustang did. They did some but not nearly as many.

Not to mention styling.

My friend is a HUGE ford fan. I love the vintage fords (a's T's) up to the late 50
s Then I wouldnt touch it.

Try one of those puppies on a high speed trip. That 1/2 of a V8 gives a hell of a massage. LOL

Im just tired of all these ford guys talking about how Chevy has no competition for the GT. When Chevy puts out a $150,000 super Vette, let me know.. Until then, I just wanna see what kinda damage that Corvette SS will do..
