Anyone know when the rev limiter kicks in on a 85 305 tpi? I was in 1st with my car yesterday and it seemed like i bought it all the way to 7 grand without it bouncing. Or do they not bounce or what. I dont know thats why im asking so dont get mad haha.

You don't have a rev limiter. 7 grand no good! I am surprised you did not have any valve float. But when the rods break apart and come out of the oil pan you will be think you wish you had a rev limiter because you could not keep your foot out of it.

Rods flying out makes a good rev limiter. LMAO

I highly doubt that would happen. Considering the fact that the motor isnt in ****ty condition and I dont know of any motor blowing up for being in its redline for a few seconds. Thanks for the no rev limiter info tho.

The motor does not need to be ****ty. I have seen it happen a few times. Many caused by automatic transmissions slipping and the people driving just give more gas to go. But hopefuly you don't find out the hard way. ;)

If I remember right the firstengine with a rev limiter was the quad 4(1988?). 7K with a stock 305? I thought the red line on those was 5,500? I rebuilt a lot of 305's under warranty in the mid to late 80's. No one ever claimed 7K. In fact when I used to build race engines wedid not use HEI's over 6,500 cause ofa delay in the spark module would start to retard the timing at that point. I saw it myself on the Dyno. Back then any engine designed for 7K had a duel point setup. Course I am sure they gotthat all fixed up by now. The bottom ends on those 305s where just plain weak, not a very rigid setup at all.

My favorite was the old lady who let her grandson borrow the car. Thing sound like a rattle trap, 7 of the 8 connecting rods where stretch out of shape. She said he just drove it normally but there was no noise before he borrowed it. I told her to tell him thats not a race car and if he drives it “normally” again you will be right back here.
