If you've never done metal work before I would clean up the spots on the pillar with a sanding disc and a wire wheel and use some metal repair puddy and some body filler but if u wanna try to fix it right you'll need to cut it out and make or have made some metal patches to be welded in....however from your pics I'd say you'll probably have to take the windsheild out and the T-top weather stripping to weld new peices in.

I STARTED TO TAKE ON THE RUST ON MY CAR AND NOTICED THAT THE RUST STARTED PITTING AND WAS HOPING SOMEONE CAN TELL ME HOW TO TREAT IT
Westown,
I am sorry to say your are going to have to replace some of the metal. Chances are when you remove all the rust there will not be enought good metal to repair. You can grind, treat with chemicals and fill with a renforced fiberglass and have a decent repair. If done right it could hold up for 10 years or so. The issue is that the rust gets in the grain of the metal you need togrind well past what you can see. There are spots on your car that will have no metal left, the rust is beyond a surface rust. Depending on the chemical you use there could be little left once it eats the rust away.
If you can not replace the metal I suggest a light grind, Convertthe remaining rust to Black Oxidethen a thin coat of renforced fiberglass. Do not use bondo or other body plastic on the converted rust. The fiberglass acts as a sealer, plastic will not and the rust we be back within the year if you use plastic. You can use bondo to smooth over the fiberglass just do not sand thru it.

You should look around the Rust repair section at Eastwood they have a good bit information there. Your rust is too deep for the etchers you need the stronger stuff.
In this thread I review some of your option
