View Full Version : Rearend to transmission traction bar? camaro590 11-15-2007, 02:53 PM do u need that bar that goes from the trans to the rearend?? its on a 86 iroc-Z MadMikeZ28 11-15-2007, 03:00 PM Yes you need the torque arm. Without it your rear end will rotate. camaro590 11-15-2007, 03:19 PM ok ty alot lol i was just woundering I just pulled out a 700r4 aout and want to put a either a th350 or a 400 r they the same length? cause ijust want to put in and go??? MadMikeZ28 11-15-2007, 03:44 PM I believe the 700 is longer. And if you do swap to a tranny without the provision for a torque arm mount there are kits to fix that. I seen them in Jegs online catalog and would think Summit should have them as well. Camaro 69 11-15-2007, 04:18 PM The t350 is about 4 inches (don't quote me) shorter than the 700 R4. The 400 is a little longer than the 350 but still shorter than the 700. Considering the cost of having a new driveshaft made, buying a remote torque arm mount, refabbing the trans crossmember, and losing overdrive, I feel you're better off and will be happier trying to find another 700 R4. camaro590 11-15-2007, 06:49 PM ok thanks guys if u no anybody that has a 700 plz pm me cause i really need one thanks for the info Norris 11-15-2007, 07:19 PM My 89 camaro has a turbo hydromatic 350 transmission form a 76 chevy truck. The 350trans has multiple versions the truck transmission has a longer tailshaft; It's long enough to still use the stock driveshaft w/o a problem. I'm using B&M's 350 adapter kit and polyurethane bushings and trans mount, but those aren't necessary. camaro590 11-15-2007, 07:31 PM so i can use a trans from a 70's model truck and everything will bolt up? Norris 11-15-2007, 09:05 PM The adapter kit has the pieces you'll need and you'll be money. It moves the transmount a few inches and has the stuff for the torque arm. I'm using the B&M shifter, so I don't know ifthe stock shifter will work exactly. Arizona Camaro 11-15-2007, 09:46 PM OK but isn't putting in a three speed taking a step backward? Your giving up the low first gear and the overdrive not to mention the lockup converter... I'm thinking about putting a 700R4 in my '83 Doolie. Better gas milage, killer first gear for pulling the Fuel Dragster MadMikeZ28 11-15-2007, 10:10 PM ORIGINAL: Arizona Camaro OK but isn't putting in a three speed taking a step backward? If you're thinking of going this route...you still need to find yourself another trans, so why not just find another 700 R4? You might have seen that name on a few top fuel dragster and among others. One of them was a local guy. John Shoemaker. Maybe you heard of him also. Drove the Budwiser Eagle later called the American Eagle. Spartan Engines also works with of Riolo racing engines. So I have been around and know Bob, Dave and John. Bob's brother Gene would paint the letters and grilles and such on the funny cars and the helmets and I would do the clear work on the helmets. ;) Oh and buy the way, I know what a dragster is.
