RcrX 11-17-2007, 08:24 AM welding the spder gears? that basically a spool isn't it. that won't do any good if u drive it on the street. daltons 1980 11-17-2007, 10:40 AM if you weld the gears it chirps when you turn..thats all my dads el camino did when he wlded them RcrX 11-17-2007, 05:25 PM yea, and it'll make it a little harder to steer. i having the same problem, i'm on limited budget and i wanna get a posi bc i have an open diff. i can get a descent posi unit out of a sec gen for around a hundred bucks, but don't kno how to set it up w/ shims. Camaro 69 11-17-2007, 05:41 PM ORIGINAL: 78 LTRS camaro or you could just get some traction bars there pretty cheap and do a good job at getting the weight transferred back there Traction bars keep the rear axle from twisting under torque (rising at the pinion point)which prevents the leaf springs from doing a wrap n' snap!It has nothing to do with comparing the traction capabilities ofa positraction versus an open diff axle. The easiest way would be to have someone else set it up for you, but that wouldn't be the cheapest. The other easiest, and possibly cheapest way would be to find a goodused drum to drumposi unit, but original ones aren'texactly a dime-a-dozen.Another option is to go with a Ferd 9", which is what I have under my 69. I have seen used ones for sale on Ebay in the past, you might want to do a search and see what you find. And, welding the spiders is ok, as long as you only drive in astraight line! |
