Cars are more work and more $$ but you can take the whole family with you. I have an 18 months old and he loves the car. He can go to sleep even with the engine running...LOL. I couldn't...

I am actually going to start tearing the beastie apart this weekend for paint. Transmission is out getting rebuilt...I figured it is about time for snow anyways so I may as well start doing my winter work on the car. After looking at the forecast, I may have it done before snow haha...I can't wait to have it ready, so I don't have to take pictures in the dark anymore haha

These are all nice rides! But I nominated jonjon and he gets my vote. Granted 80Z28 is closer in years my dad had an 81 Z28 that was Charcoal with silver interior and dealer installed Chrome Cragar 5 spokes.
Jonjon needs hubcaps thogh so I deducted 2 points. It would have been 4 but for all I know he has caps on the other side :D

Hey thanks for the votes guys.....got some good looking cars I'm up against.....

My Camaro orginally had Ralley wheels, the mags that are on it now are old ET mags....they have been on the car for 35 years. Paid $100 for all of them, brand new! I wish it had originally with the SS wheels also, but unfortunatly the window sticker tells the tale.

Hey!! I'm gonna need a couple more votes if we're gonna keep this race close! ;)

calm down dude, I have a ****ty digital camera, I tried to use photobucket before an all i got was text. I am terrible with computers, dunno anything about them. If you guys want go ahead, but personally I am not gonna waste 3 or 4 hours to post a video on here. If it was a great race or somethin, maybe. Hell it would take hours, I am on a dial up modem, not dsl or cable

Not very, I was just loafing along, just enough to hear the pipes. Plus I had a car coming my way, so no real romps on the gas...Heh.

But now Jon wants everyone to make a video.....Gee I might have to make another.....of course this video hasn't gotten me any votes since I posted it.

I haven't been around lately, I try not to be on the computer that much while its nice. (Plenty of time in the winter.)
Plus I have been busy working on my Jeep Rubicon. When I bought it, the polishedMickey Thomson mags were all corroded, so I was trying to figure out what to do with them. I'm basically a lazy person, so I didn't want to get them polished back up and have to polish them every month. So I elected to try powder coating them.....I also took the fake bead locks off and had them chromed and replaced the rusted center caps......

Heres the daughter in it:

Once powder coated those wheels clean up FAST! Floor jack the wheel up, spray with some shine'm stuff.....spin the front and wipe off and the just reach on the backside for a few more spins to clean and your done!! Mucho better than polishing aluminum!!! [sm=bling.gif]

Heres a lil helpful tip for anyone that needs it......[8D]

WOW, sounds like you should have gotten the whole car. Or was it in really bad shape??

JONJON your link seems to have some info wrong. It has 396/350 listed as being only 600 made and makes no mention of the 375hp L78. Also it says that the SS trunks were blacked out, when actually only the SSL78's were.

I tried, but he wasn't willing to part with it, he had another 396 with I think a 6-71 on it sitting in is garage waiting to go in. The SS was actually very straight, and had no rust. It was a desert car it's whole life.

Is the trailer hitch in the picture factory, I know it was a really rare option on the car, but I have never seen one myself. The way its mounted made me wonder. Also, has anyone ever seen a second gen with the deluxe bumper group? from 70-72 only a couple thousand were made, It was basically a rubber strip along the front and rear bumpers of the car.

Thanks Trip, all it takes is elbow grease and a lil slugger baseball bat, to keep it looking almost as good as when I first bought it. ;)
I do need to 'fit the hood' on it though yet. I took it off when switching to the glass hood. When I went to put it back on a "Pal" helping me, loosened the bolts on the hinges....ACCKK!!! So the adjustment was all screwed up. I KNOW the hood fits ok, cause it did when I bought it, I just need to find someone that can get it right. My cousin's hubby works at a GM plant, I'm hoping one day that he will make it down here or I make it up to Lansing, Mi to get it fixed.
Or I might throw caution to the wind and just give it another go myself, one of these days.

I had the same problem, I took the car to Classic Industries and they adjusted my hood. It sucked because after installing theBigger Intake Manifoldandthe 750 Carb my stock hood did not fit. I got the fiver glass hood I only needed a 2" cowl but I ended up getting the 3". It really does a lot for the car.

Rand.. Are you the original owner???

No, I bought it when it was a year old and had 12K miles on it. The original owner was in the service when he ordered it. And my sister and brother-in-law lived next door to his parents. My brother-in-law took me over to his parents garage and showed me the car when he first got it. He still had a short time to go in the service.
He never let anyone smoke, eat, etc etc in it....the ashtray had never been used.....

When I bought it the next year, it had the smog stuff off and had Hooker headers and header mufflers. He also put the taller spoiler on the back. Other than that, it was 'stock'.
And besides changingstuff aroundfrom time to time, it has basically stayed the same as I bought it.
I did put an oil gauge in the ashtray....(but I got an extra ashtray)....

I have went back and talked to Terry (the original owner) a few times....I asked why he didn't get the aluminum heads, I guess he had heard they didn't disapate heat that well.....(GRRRRR) LoL

So I guess I can tell you just about anything on the car....original spare tire yet....original warning sticker for the posi....etc etc....

I had a hard time buying it off the Chevy lot.....but I guess thast another story.....[8D]

That's awesome, I wish I could say that about mine. I could tell you that from 73, I'm sure the car bounced around one person to the next. I use the original wiring harness as my determining factor. Usually one to two owners won't do it, but whenthere are more than that you get to see what I like to call a "factory custom" wiring harness. The kind that take two weekends, 6 ponds of solder, a half mile of heat shrink and getting burned 17 times before it's fixed....Is it just me?

No, usually after they have changed stereo's a few times, the wiring looks like a birds nest. LoL

Then I have seen countless carburator techs. Almost every used Holly I have boughthas been butchered...first thing they want to do is remove the vacumms....then they want to pull the bowls off to re-jet it.....only NO ONE seems to own a set of fitting wrenches....so all the nuts on the bowls are rounded, from using 'who knows what' on them. Yeah, people do somedumb stuff to their cars, but I think it's cause they know they aren't going to keep it. Then again, part of the fun is fixing all these other things that you notice when you were working on something else.

Nice... I wish I knew where my cars been..... All I know is that is was built here in SOCAL and it still here..... My car is 100% rust free so I know its been taking care of.

Same with mine,It was built in Van Nuys, Ca then was moved to Desert Hot Springs Ca, about 10 minutes from Palm springs. It stayed there until I bought it. So it's rust free also. Gotta love that dry weather.

mine was Van Nuys, but not rust free, I am gonna post pics of my car at various stages, like when the roof and both quarters were chopped. my car is, even if i lose, damn good because I know where its been in terms of work, how much i had to do, and how much is left till I am satisfied, which is not till i hit mid 11s (hello 383 stroker and 200 shot [sm=devilgrin.gif])

I hear that, that's the only way it can be. Just make sure that if it ever gets serious with a woman and you want to take the next step, you better lay down the rules. I told my wife before we got married that I had my cars before her. It worked out because she loves them and is always asking when I'm gonna work on them and if she can help.

I told my wife before we got married that I had my cars before her.

I had my car after her.

I was boxing and I came home from a fight, pretty well beat to hell. So we had our first fight, since getting married. She wanted me to quit fighting and I told her no.
I stuck to my guns, until she said that she knew I had been wanting a corvette, so ifI quit fighting she'd help me buy the Corvette!!!

Sooooo a buddy of mine with a 62 Vette and I went shopping for a car. I almost bought a 67 Roadster, 427 Tri-Power, but the sales guy was being a dick, so I left without it. Then we went to the Chevy lot and I saw the hugger orange Camaro. I told the wife I'd settle for that Camaro, instead of the Vette. (SIGH, I should have gotten the vette...LoL)

So thats how I came to keep it all this time.....I gave up a lot to get it.....and she could never tell me to get rid of it.
So where a lot of guys sold their toys, I kept mine.

Yeah bowtieguyI do, I guess I'm lucky. But I would probably take some pages out ofthat there book of yours had it been different between my cars and my wife.

Who knows Rand maybe something would have happened to the vette, then you wouldn't havehad the vette or the camaro. At least you have one awesome camaro.

You might be right, the guy that had the 62 Vette ended up almost getting killed. He rolled it in a curve, the only piece of the car that wasn't broken was the trunk lid. The rest was totaled. His passenger had to pull him out of a ditch with some water in it or he would have drowned.

He drives a Viper now. LoL

Sounds like my friends dad, he had a 70 SS and on the day he turned 21 he and his buddy went to the bar and when the left they were doing 60 around a turn that was supposed to be 25 and the front right tire blew out and he dumped the car in a concrete ditch 20 feet below. They both walked away with minor injuries. But the car was gone.

He drives a Geo Metro now.

Sounds like you have a keeper there riceeater. Teach her well and it will only get better. Then she'll ask when she can drive. Then you just laugh and pat her on the head and say someday....someday. I'm just kidding, well only a little.

That's would be awesome, it always helps to have an extra hand in the garage. My wife is the same way, she says she wants to drive the camaro, but when I hand her the keys she says she doesnt want to drive it. She thinks she'll break it or crash it.

Same here.Exceptfor thisone time I told her to sit on car and drive it around the block..... She drove it like at MPH.and the car was so loud. She didn't like it. So the next day I got my sons seat out of the van and took them to the beach, which is 15 to 20 miles away. There was traffic on the way there and she noticed the attention that my car gets specially cruising along the coast. After that day she told me to keep the car and will it to my son, he is 1 1/2 years old, back then I had 2 motorcycles3 cars. We had to get rid of some of them because the insurance was killing me. So I sold be bikes and kept the camaro and the money I got from the bikes went straight into the camaro.:D

That's such an awesome feeling, all these people watching you. It's even better when some weenie in a $90K Porsche stares as you drive by him. Then they usually speed off and cry all the way home.

You better will that car to your son. You do want it to go to the state, that would be horrible. You have to save it for the family.

The last time my aunt came down from Michigan, shes 75,she wanted a ride in mine. So her & my two cousins hopped in and we made the circuit around town. I just jumped on it easy a couple times.....didn't want my aunt having the big one in my car!

We passed a mall that had cars out for sale and there was a bunch of guys around one of them looking at it, until we drove by, then my cousins were telling me they all watched us as we drove by instead. (They never seen a hugger orange Camaro before?) Hahhahahhahahahha

After I overhauled my engine I started getting it ready for car shows for the next year. I took the front bumper off and the grill out, so I could wax the whole front and get her shined up.

I'll just give ya the secret instead.

This year, I bought a Mothers clay kit and went over the hood, top and trunk lid. Then after I got done with each section I used Liquid Glass on it.
I've used all types of wax & polishes, but I have always gone back to Liquid Glass. Gives a great shine & protection. The only thing about it is that you had better have your car CLEAN.....and everything removed from the finish so that its exactly how you want it. Because after you put the Liquid Glass on its gonna stay there!![:o]
