Hey everyone. I'm building up a 396 and I have an SS hood on my car now. Will there be enough clearence under the hood for the air filter and carb, or will I have to put a cowl induction hood on it. I really want to keep the SS hood if I can. Has anyone done this before?

The SS 396 came from the factory with a SS hood on it, so why can't you do it?

yeah, I know. The only thing is I'm putting aluminum heads with a different intake, so I'm not sure if it will fit due to the higher intake. I'm just seeing if anyone has built up a 396 and ran a SS hood with it? The reason I want to know is because I'm painting the car soon and I want to know wich hood I'm going to paint.

X2 - From the factory. Just try it and see if it works, if not, well.... there you go. COPO 427's came with the cowl induction hoods, so it wont be to far off.

It should work depending on the intake choice and if you have to try a dropped air cleaner base it should help.
