ok so i took my car by the auto-tech shop at my school today. and they told me that my stripes were acually painted on [:'(]. they could tell by the way my stripes are cracked and faded on the roof of my car. my freind that i know there said that stripe kits will rip, tear, and get air bubbles but wont crack and fade, only paint would do that. So how should i go about removing stripes that are painted on?????????????? i asked my freind but he said he really didnt know

You could take it to an auto body repair shop and see if they can take the stripes off, and paint the area where they were to match the color of your car then color-age the area.

you think a painted on stripe will come off? yes sanded and painted cause if you just have em paint over the stripes u will see the lines.

bluoval is right the only really clean way to do it is to sand down the stripes and hit it with a full fresh coat of paint not much you can do besides that

take it to a professional shop and see if there painted on...
school shops often don't know 100% what there talking about...
Also, if the kid knew that the stripes were painted on, he would have known that the only way to remove them was to sand them down and repaint

If I were you I'd wait until I got the hood and then repaint the whole car. That's what I'm going to do.

I've spent up to $10K on paint before without bodywork and just last month I spent thousands just painting half of my 2004 GTO and there was NO bodywork needed. if you want a quality job, you are going to have to pay. if you get quoted $2K you have to realize that they are cutting corners soemwhere, no matter what they tell you. for a proper and complete job they need to that everything off the car that can unbolt (or be taken out, like windows). there really should not be anything left on the car and masked if it can be removed. this is where you will get your biggest price and quality descrepancy
