I currently Have flowmasters on my 95 z and my 96 ss
in my opinion they sound kind of raspy at idle when i rev..

will glasspacks make it louder and deeper???
do i have to replace the whole exhaust system or just the muffler???

IMO glasspacks suck, they don't flow well and and are old technology, they won't help the sound either, infact it will sound really blatty/raspy. The main cause of the raspy sound on F-bodies is the y-pipe style exhuast. Check out www.ls1sounds.com they have hundreds of sound clips of al sorts of different set ups.

They always remind me of rednecks in beat up pick up trucks with gun racks in the back window.

i had a glass on mine for a while, it was okay for $40...but i didnt want it permenantly, the sound to me isnt all that bad but i think gettin a new muffler vs glasspack would be better. all the glasspack does is replace the existing muffler and doesnt allow for duals and it doesnt flow as well

put it this way, i ran a straight pipe no cat to the glasspack and when i went and got my exhaust redone (2.5 ince pipe from the y plus a high flow cat and a flowmaster muffler) there was a very big difference in power, for the better ofcourse

glasspacks have a loud sound but they are extremely raspy, soundwise flowmasters are good, but they have poor performance, look into magnaflow or other higher quality mufflers

Dynomax is another company that makes a great muffler.

If you have flowmasters I would keep that. You will get a better performance with those. Glasspacks are not really known for street performance. If you prefer a different sound or you just want a different muffler there are alot of choices out there.

Care to post up some proof of this amazing race car with glass packs that you speak of. I stand behind my preivous comment, glass packs do not flow well and are not true performance mufflers.

I am not a fan of glass packs, not from the sound but since you have to replace them regularly for inspection. I would just use the cheap mufflers at advanced auto. or any auto store.

By the way, I wish I had a pickup that had a gun rack and was all beat up. Better than my current daily. Ha Ha
