im trying to replace the rear wheel bearings on a 96 3800 series and can't get the axles off. The chilton book says its help in by a c clip.. i took the diff cover off and don't see any clips. It also says to remove the bolt holding the pinion shaft in, the pinion shaft doesn't have a BOLT! it's held in by what looks like a pressed shaft. I know some one must have replaced the wheel bearings before... all help is greatly appreciated.

There is a bolt on the side of the differential carrier that locks the cross shaft in place, Remove the bolt and you should be able to tap the cross shaft out. Then push the axles in toward the center of the housing and the C clips become exposed, now remove the C clips. Be careful not to damage the reluctor wheel on the outside of the ring gear, otherwise the ABS won't work. Now pull the axles out
