Does anyone know how much a 396 big block weighs? thanks

Are you talking about the whole motor w/heads and all or just the empty block. Because I'd say the heads alone are about 80lbs/ea.
But, for an empty block... probably around 400lbs. I'm guessing of course.

The same as a 402 bigblock....:D

About 650+ lbs with iron heads.

I knew the answer off the top of my head but a quick web search would have yielded you quicker results.

thanks...I am buying a 69 ss 396 and the original motor is on the guys garage floor. Hewas smart enough to build a separate motor and keep the original. His dad bought the car brand new

forgot to mention the guy l bought it from, his father bought the car brand new. I have all documents on the car: hand written order, invoice, protecto plate. l hope the build sheet is still in the car!

thank you Matt. l have looked this car over very wel as l have been looking for years. A friend of mine has known this guy for 20 years and has always wanted to buy the car from him but he never wanted to sell it. Since my friend has bought a rs/ss and now he decided to sell. Being that l know my friend he gave me first dibs on the car. l happen to just know the right person.
