I am using the vaccum advance distributor on a chevy 350, pretty much stock just has an intake manifold and a very mild cam, and headers. I went with the MSD 6A though. The vaccum advance is mainly for economy use when your at low speeds or cruising. It gave me a smother idle but at the same time, gave me a better spark curve than my stock dristributor. As for the full mechanical advance distributor, i have not yet tried that one.

Good choice. The vacuum advance will give you better gas mileage andallow the motor to run cooler. Just check that the advance is all in by 2500 rpm. Most of the afer market distributors are already set up this way. Mark off or measure about 34 degrees on your crank pulley before TDC. Plug the vacuum advance
while you time the car. Gently bring the motor up to 2500 or 3000 and set the new mark on zero. This will give you all the power thats there when you need it.
Then reconnect the vacuum advance and reset you idle speed. Don't worry about the original factory recommended advance settig. You now have POWER !
