Default Have questions before I buy...

Hi there,

I am looking to buy a V6 / 5 spd camaro. I can choose between a 97 or 98 (both are in same condition and price range).

Could you guys give me some ideas what to look for in each before I purchase. Anything I should stay away from?

I am a handy guy and have worked on my cars/toys for a while and not afraid to tackle small projects.

Any special items that I should check for before I purchase would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum. Approach it like You would buying any Car. Look for problems in general. By '97 The Camaro 4th gen had been in production long enough to sort out any problem areas. So, There aren't any weird issues to llok for. You might check with a Chevy dealer to see if there were any recalls on particular models.

Were all 97/98 years equiped with 3.8L? When did they switch from 3.4?

They switched late in 95 to the 3.8l. I would go with the 98. Thats when they upgraded the body style and switched to the LS1 for the z28s I think. From all that I have herd (Because I own a 95) is 98+ the Camaros are good. Ask them about the options it has, and search forums.

I picked up the 98 yesterday. It's in great shape.

Looking forward to enjoying it
