Default Shock Sensor.. What for?

Ok guys... near my spare tire I have a shock sensor.. I was reading about it in the manual but forgot most of what I've read by now. I think its for some theft deterrent thing or something but I'm not sure. Anyway, I have manual locks and everything on mine, and I was wondering what the shock sensor was for. I've locked my doors, turned the sensitivity on it way up, screwed with it.. nothing ever happened. So I was wondering..

Default RE: Shock Sensor.. What for?

The shock sensor is located near the spare tire in the rear of the vehicle. Its sensitivity has been set to comply with various local regulations requiring vehicle contact to set off the alarm. It can be adjusted if more or less sensitivity is desired. If sensitivity is increased too much, it may give false alarms caused by gusts of wind or other natural events that may shake the vehicle. To adjust, remove the label covering the adjustment **** and adjust as desired. Turn clockwise to increase sensitivity. Turn counterclockwise to decrease sensitivity. The red lamp on the shock sensor illuminates at shock levels that would cause the full (2 minute ) alarm to sound. Different levels of shock are required on the various body panels and windows to activate the sensor, depending on the material (plastic, steel or glass) and distance from the shock sensor. Two levels of alarms are available through the shock sensor.
