I have a 1996 5 speed camaro. For some odd reason, sometimes when I try to start my car it wont start. The Security light turns on, once i wait to turn off, it will start like normal. What the hell is going on?

 

it may be the chip in the key.

 

Get a new key.

 

if the key was the problem, wouldnt it happen every time? It happens once in a while. Not every time, but ill get a new key anyways.

 

JOV, you do need a new key, or try cleaning the sensor on the old one. The problem accures when the sensor in the steering column trys to communicate with the key. If it doesn't communicate properly, when you turn the key the car thinks its the wrong key and disables the vehicle then turns the "SECURITY" light on. Try brushing it clean with an old toothbrush first.

Yeah my security light on my 93 stays on all the time and it never shuts off. I never have a problem starting my car though..

I have the same problem with my RS V6 3.1 just play with the key and sometimes it will turn on well...
i thinking it mite be the key so yeah try it maybe the chip on ur is burn out or something ima try getting another key too pretty soon just hit me up if u do get another key

 

how about if u put the key in the security light doesn't turn on the car won't start?
