Default Rough start/idle

Ok guys I'm still new to this forum. I have a 94 base model with the 3.4 liter and an auto Trans. Now some back story on it I just bought it like about 3 months ago I got it for 600 because of a misfire well it was just the number 2 plug wire was arcing on the egr valve well I replaced all the plugs and and wires new oil new battery new serp belt rotated and filled the tires changed the front brakes. Anyway so I got it running smooth except for the start up it sounds healthy but most of the time it takes like 2 or 3 tries to start it and I can't quite put my finger on it and my other problem is while idling in drive it's very rough but not like misfire rough but I usually shift into neutral while at a stop light but I would really like to figure it out. Please help especially the starting problem. BTW it has about 187000 miles on it.

First thing that pops to mind is a weak fuel pump, or a bad fuel pressure regulator giving it too much fuel. Get a fuel pressure gauge and check pressure at the fuel rail. Prime the pump first, key on-not run. See what pressure is at, then while engine is running, and then after you shut engine off, see if pressure drops fast or holds for a while.

If it's a bad fuel pump, only the diagnostic is simple, not the fix. lol

I don't really think fuel pumps are that bad. I worked at a chevy dealer for 2 years as a mechanic so I have a little bit of experience

Replacing the pump is easy, once you get to it. But these cars, unlike others, don't have an access panel. You either take apart half the back end to drop the tank, or cut an access panel from above, which is the preferred method. The easiest pump I ever replaced was on my old C4 Vette.

I've done very many fuel pumps and I've never had the luxury of a access panel I've always had to drop the tank but it's alot nicer when it's 6 feet in the air and u don't have to lay down
