Default 3.8 exhaust question

Hey guys I just bought a magnaflow 15693 exhaust kit for my 2002 Camaro 3.8 just to make sure I need to reuse my catalytic converter right? I wanted to remove it while I installed the new exhaust but have searched and seen people say there car wont run without it. If I do need to reuse my catalytic converter could I just hollow it out and everything be fine... Thanks just figured car is getting some age on it that it wouldn't hurt to remove or hollow it out. no emissions where I live at so I don't have to worry about anything..

yes leave your cat. rasp is nasty bad without it. i would recommend you not gut it till you hear how it sounds with it stock.

you'd best check with your state to see if you have emissions testing and if the cat can be removed

Where I live, I yanked them on several cars and used "off road" pipes as my state has no emissions testing.

But, I've never done it on a sixer so can't comment on the sound

I just upgraded my single to a ss magnaflo duel exhaust system. I have a 97 3800 I think it sounds great. A mild aggressive sound. It looks great and is tight. Doesn't have the loud aggressive sound as if installed on a v8. The average person might believe you have something a lot bigger under the hood with the look and sound. An s pipe with a flange comes with the package but I cut and weld A connector to the pipe from the cat, is welded as one pipe to cat. Pretty easy upgrade and well worth it. A lot more positive feed back with the installment and is nice to hear while driving. For me was great experience and worth it. I didn't touch the cat and happy I didnt. I think duel people to install would be good also. Stainless steel hurts when falls on nose. But I could tighten all five clamps in one spot, was pretty cool.

What I have had on my car.

Flowmaster: sounds GREAT at idle up to 2200 RPM even car guys assumed I had a V8, border line embarrassing above 2500 RPM with raspyness.

Flowmaster: No low end rumble sounds much better 2500-3500

hollowed Cat: Added a little rumble at idle but caused a droning noise at highway cruising speed that will cause you to turn your radio up. If it added raspyness it is at the 3500 + range.

I hollowed out the cat because it failed not to change the sound. I would keep it if it had not failed.

Ouch yeah a tranny a little heavier than muffler. I installed my cat back system last week and been checking everyday and last night one of the pipes were loose. The connecting nipple from the muffler to the pipe came off with clamp and tail pipe. May have broke. I did have to readjust the strap clamp. Was worried I installed too tight on one side. I was able to weld the nipple back to muffler ( looks like it was tack welded or not may have broke off from stress of being too tight ) and didn't slide pipe as far onto nipple. I installed both pipes by eye first time for level and straightness between the two tail pipes. Hoping I relieved the stress. I used a tape measure this time. System is tight again but is in different spot by a 1/4 of an inch. so am thinking root cause I had the one pipe clamped to far in on muffler and I'm getting old so may need glasses. I broke it but I fixed it all good. I'm getting a lot more respect for what you all are doing. Working on a car is hard work but very rewarding.
