Red face Shifting issues, need help

I have a 2002 N.H.R.A. Edition Formula, M6, which comes with the short throw shifter as part of the N.H.R.A. package. When I'm sitting still and want to shift to either 1st or Reverse, the car won't go into either gear without forceful convincing. I've tried double clutching(although I do not believe with only 45k miles, this should even be necessary), as well trying to go to 2nd first but it still fights me. I'm not sure if their is linkage on this set up or if the stick goes directly into the transmission. If their IS linkage, I imagine it would need to possibly be adjusted? If their isn't any linkage, what are my alternatives? Has anyone seen or had this problem with their 94-02? I know 93 is different, so that year I believe is irrelavant to my issue. Any advise or personal testimonials are welcome. Thanks.

If your trans shifts fine with the engine off, then I'd look into it as being the clutch isn't disengaging fully. With engine running, pump the clutch pedal real fast a half dozen times or so, then quickly see if it will slip into gear. If so, then you have a hydraulic issue where you have either air in the line, or the master and/or slave cylinder is bad.

My car is doing the same thing. It is a 1994 though. It only does it in 1-2 and then grinds when Im putting it in reverse. Someone said it could be the synchros.....any ideas?

Reverse does not have syncs. If it is grinding going into reverse then the clutch is NOT completely disengaging.

Here is the test. With the car in neutral Press the clutch, Now start the car (keep the clutch pushed in do not let it out). Now try to put the car in reverse. If it grinds you clutch is turning the transmission while it is being pushed in.

The only reason for the test is because it is possible that if you had the clutch out even for a second the input shaft could still be turning and can cause the grinding BUT if the clutch is pushed in the entire time the motor is running then there should be nothing in the transmission turning to cause the grind.

It still grinds when I do that, unless I do it really slow. And it is really hard for me to put it into first and second gear. Sometimes if I pump the clutch it is easier.

Sounds like a hydraulic issue. FYI driving a car with the clutch not fully disengaging will make it much harder to shift into any gear, it also a very hard on the syncs.

Doesn't do it when it's cold, right?
Mine did the same thing. Pilot bearing.

the t56 doesnt have synchs i thought, because it is a constant mesh. It does have blocker rings, or are those the same thing?

Mine does a similar thing. Whenever the trans is cold it wont go into first for reverse easily, but will go into 2-6. I usually just put it into 3rd, let the clutch out just a tiny bit til it engages, then it going into first or reverse with no trouble. My transmisson doesnt even have 35,000 miles on it yet.
