Socom's V6-> V8 Swap thread!
Well its time to move up to a v8 everyone. I might as well document it since people are always speculating without ever actually doing it themselves. So here we are.
My plan for the swap goes as follows:
Longtubes
ORY
Tubular k
Rebuilt trans
2800 stall
4.10s
LE2 Heads/cam/intake
Throttle body (cant decide between 52 or 58mm)
Canton valve covers
Electric water pump
MSD Opti and coil
and a 3" cutout.
First off let me introduce my donor car: A 1997 A4 Z28. Has 121k miles, paid $900.
The first step that I did was to strip the interior of the z28 completely because the wiring is different between my 93 and the 97.
You can see the car was in an accident, so I had to improvise to rescue the little delco amplifier.
I STRONGLY recommend taking a few minutes as you unplug things to label what you are unplugging. Take some masking tape and a sharpie, and label everything. It will make your life much easier in the future.
The next step is to pull the dash. It is easier if you undo the bolts holding the steering column in place and taking the wheel off.
Here is a view of behind the dash. The blower motor and all the wiring to it IS THE SAME between 93-97, but my harness is different in my car, so I have to change it (the harness coming through the passenger side firewall behind the PCM).
Here is a picture of the BCM from the 97, it is different than the 93 so I changed it.
After I had all the wiring ready to be swapped into the 93, I gutted the 93's interior.
Two interiors takes up one of my bays in the garage :P
The weather decided to be nice so I got to wash the other Z
NOTE: The door harnesses between 93 and 97 are different, so I swapped it.
Here is the Z28 dash in the former v6, 4 cup holders compared to one is going to be great
My Longtubes, ORY, stage 8 locking header bolts, prothane motor mounts, and egr block off plates also came in, still waiting on the tubular k.
Stay tuned for more updates!

Those LTs are sexy. And how is it that BOTH those dashboards look like they're in perfect condition? Every where I go and see a 4th gen, the dashes are cracked.
Anyways, I'm defiantly following this closely because it's nice to see someone do the actual swap instead of inquiring about it and then be scared off with all that needs to be done.

You probably are referring to the dash pad behind the actual dash. The one in the 93 was cracked in 5 pieces. I ordered a new one before I started this project and it showed up the same day I bought the 97. The one in the 97 was mint but I cracked it getting it out. I will definitely try to answer peoples questions about the swap since I am very familiar with how everything goes together.

Updates for today! I got the motor out and I am going to begin disassembling it. And I know that the trans and harness is needed, thats why I bought a donor car :P
A quick tip- If you are going to drop the motor on the bottom, buy two 1000lb furniture dollys to rest the motor on so it is easy to pull out after lifting the frame. I bought mine at harbor freight.

The c6 wheels came with the car because the guy didnt want them The K member came out easy, I just supported the k member and transmission with a floor jack and unbolted the k member, and then lowered it down onto my dollys.

Yeah the fuel lines are longer on the lt1, I saw the connection and it looks easy to swap. I also will be deleting the ASR because I have a 4 channel rear in my car already and it would be useless (not to mention ugly in the engine bay)
