You should keep an eye out for another set of heads. The damage in the combustion chamber is not normal machine shop work, Non-normal work means big money if they will do it at all. Since machine shops remove metal they will need to machine way the damage. that will mean less compression. They could machine it down tig it back up and machine it again. It will be a lot cheaper to find a set of used heads. Heck I saw a set off a 94 Z in the local U-pull-it, I could have gotten for $50.
When you inspect you bearing look for pitting in the bearing or anything that looks like a trail. this would be signs that coolant was in there and they same thing will be in your CAM bearing and even inside you lifters. The trail even gets into the oil passages and the onlyway to get rid of it is to dip the block in acid.

So I'm gonna be doing some more work tomorrow, and I have a couple questions for those of you who have pulled these engines multiple times:
1. Is it easier to pull the engine with the harness still on it, or to leave the entire harness in the car?
2. Where do you remove the brake lines? Last time we disconnected them at the ABS module and left that much of the lines connected to the k-member, which ended up being a big PITA

i left the harness with the body. figured i had to unhook all that stuff anyways may as well do it and get it outa the way.
did the brake at the abs unit, didnt have issues with them much, i think they hung up a couple times as i was lifting body.

So this has been on hold for about 3 months. I had been looking for a new place to live, and I thought I had a good place firmly in mind. But after I discovered how messed up the engine was, I was forced to reconsider how badly I needed a garage so I could work on this thing. I had to go pedal-to-the-metal for a solid month or so searching for a new place, and long story short, I ended up buying a two-car garage with an attached house. I've been ridiculously busy this summer with the house and with some other stuff, so the Camaro had sadly been neglected. No longer. I finally got it towed from the shop where I had been working on it to the house.
Welcome to your new home, my old friend.
