A discontinued part...
Hi All -
I have a 1996 RS
I have been searching everywhere for this interior part and cannot seem to find it. It is the storage box that fits into the console. The plastic that is the hinge assembly was snapped when I bought the car years ago. On the bottom of the box there are two numbers stamped17997749 and 10Z8945. Can anybody give me direction to go? I know in earlier Camaro models reproduction boxes were made. Thanks for any help = )

I believe what your referring to is the lid for the ashtray. The parts book shows that the automatic and six speed consoles ashtray lids were different numbers. Hawks Motorsports has the automatic console part.

Here's a diagram for the console of a 1996 Camaro from an online GM parts supplier. I don't see anything like what you have shown. It looks like what is the inside of the console storage area, but I'm pretty sure that was molded into the console body and not a separate part. Looks like you'll have to check salvage yards to find what your looking for.

Thank - you
I have been over this diagram on several different pages and I see it never shows that part. It is actually not molded in though. It is bolt down and removable. My scrap yard does not have it and it is no where on ebay at all. I suspect like the 80 Camaro, it was a problematic box. The hinge plastic that houses the hinge pin snaps. By posting this I had hoped to come across someone who had a scrap car or someone who knew of a aftermarket replacement like they did for the second generation camaros.

Really don't know what you mean by this, but it is a perfect fit, I unbolted it myself. Here is a stock Google image of the console and the insert side by side. Apparently it was a very common issue in 93-96
