Valve Cover replacement on 94 Z28
Just changed the valve covers on my 94 Z28. Even though the book says to remove the alternater and transmission dipstick tube, I remembered the last time I did them, the engine was out of the car. This time it was in the car, and I did the right side without removing the trans dip stick on my automatic. I even was able to leave the alternater in. I just removed the portion of the serp belt that goes on the alternater by removing the belt only from the pulley right below the alt. and I left in the long bolt on the bottom of the alternater while removing the two other bolts that hold it in place. I also had to remove the bracket that holds the upper bolts in place.Once the long bolt is the only bolt left, use it to pivot the alternater up out of the way, so the valve cover will clear the alternater. Trans tube stick does not have to come out. Just work around it as their is plenty of room to remove/replace the cover. Hope this helps. The other side just simply comes off by removing the brake booster vacuum line.
