sounds like you need someone that is well experinced at at rebuild rearend ,could be the bearings ,theres a lot of little parts in those not my bag either ,it may be well worth 4 5 hours labor to have someone do it ,depending on what needs to be replaced ,there has to be some who has more knowledge hear about the 10 bolt 7.5 rear end ,an probley many youtube videos would show rebuilds could try that

Well, I called up the place that sells remanufactured rear ends, price seems a little high. They want $1650 + shipping for a stock used rear end that's had new bearings and axle shafts installed. Nothing else done.
Then if mine is saveable, they'd want an estimated $1500 to replace the bearings, axle shafts, etc., plus shipping two ways on my part.
Junk yards are looking mighty pretty right now.

A 9in is over a grand for just the case. Add another 1200 for the pig and you're looking at a $2k rear end. Which for someone drag racing or putting down a lot of power, that's fine, but way too much for a DD.
If your housing is still good, I have a case that's still good that I don't need. The only down fall is it is 2.73 gears. I spent a little over $300 for a used rear end at the local salvage yard and that was after talking them down on price. They let me inspect it before I paid so I knew what I was getting.

I bought a whole rear end, rotor to rotor, for roughly $300 from the local salvage yard.
I still have the my old limited slip carrier but it's 2.73 gears. It's still good, just the gears aren't the most desirable ratio. I have no use for it since swapping to steeper gears.

Isn't 2.73 the stock ratio for the base model/z28?
I'm not looking for radical changes honestly, just need ring and pinion gears that aren't damaged, and a differential that isn't totaled. If it's stock ratio, I'm more than happy with that.
I'm not racing this guy, it's just a weekend driver and piddle-mobile for me and the father.
-edit-
Well, looked up the stock gear ratios. The 2.73 is the basically the only thing that came in the base models, or the cheaper Z28's. 3.23 is what the 'performance' axle option was for auto's back then.
Oh well. Anything is better than what I've got. If your differential that you're getting rid of is still good and smooth, I'll still consider it. How many miles did you put on it?
