Default Tires...

Hey guys. So I'll probably be getting new tires soon and wanted to pose a few questions here with some concerns I have. First, right now I have Yokohoma v4s 245/50r16's. Love those tires but they've been discontinued so I'm looking for a new good tire similar. I'd like at least a v rating or higher with similar grooves(the kind of angled in grooves to channel water). Also I know the stock tire width for the stock wheels is 235, least that's what the manual says. The guy I bought it from had 245's on there so that's what I stuck with when I got the Yokohoma's. What's the max tire size for the stock wheels if anyone knows? What do you guys run?

how wide are the rims, 8.5? 245 45 is what i am using with 8.5x17s. so 245 50 16 is about right. thats about as wide as you want to go. you can put whatever you want on the rims but lose tire performance.

Not sure on the rim width. So your opinion, you think next time I should get some 245 45 17's or stick with the 245 50 16's? I do eventually plan on getting aftermarket wheels but that's a ways down the road. I'll probably stick with the size I got, just curious. Just fyi, it's these kinds of wheels. http://ls1tech.com/forums/attachment...es-wheels1.jpg

the 245 50 16s hight should measure around 26 inches. thats what your looking for if you want to keep stock hight. could go 245 45 16 and it would lower it a bit.

it's that time of year when Ebay will offer $100 off of a tire order over $400 so keep checking. Sumitomo HTR-AS have served me well with tread life and traction.

I usually end up getting my tires from discounttiredirect.com and when Ebay has the $100 off it's a sweet deal, no sales tax, free shipping as opposed to tirerack which charges tax and shipping

A quick review on tire size. 245 45 17. 245 The tire is 245mm width and 45 is height of the sidewall. 17 is the rim size.

245mm= 9.65" wide no matter how tall the tire is. I see no reason to want a taller tire on a sports car. You need some height to handle crappy roads but less side wall height mean better handling.

The 45 is the percentage of height to width. For a 245 width, that would be 245 x .45 = about 110 mm for the sidewall height.
