It gets weird, With many hand held scan tools themself there is no differents in my 96 and a 2000 but that is because the scan tool itself is designed that way. If you have an OTC you see no differents. When you get to the cheapy ABS scan tools like they sell at Auto zone it says OBD2 but if you go to the actron website there is a list of supported cars. The camaro does not show up on the list until 2000 so that why I assumed that what when the F body switched. I have the XLscan Pro software but even with the GM enhanced module it will not read my 96. I read in the XLscan forms it was because of hardware limitation and how the system Recieves the CIDs. With OBD2 protocals the scanner just sends in a request and receives answer but with OBD1 protocal is not as simple.

There was one guy building OBD1 Laptop interfaces and they where about $800 to build. Once the scan real scan tools started hitting the market used there was not reason to build the OBD 1 interface anymore.

Some of the GM cars did not switch over to OBD2 on the ABS until 2004. If i remember right the W body was on of the late comers which really pissed off a lot of Grand prix owners.

My scan tool is an Equus 3160 and it will do at least a 99 V6 Camaro. I have not had the chance to try it out on anything older. Well a 95 but it would not read that at all.
