Default Slow on the startup

Ok... This dosent seem like a huge problem, when cast in the shadow of people who have complete engine breakdowns, but I have to ask...

My 94Z starts up slowly... it turns over for 2-3 seconds before coming to life. I took it to my mechanic, and he said it would be solved with a tune up, but that dosent sound right... seems like it would be more of an ignition issue, or maybe the distriubtor. But being TOTALLY new to computer controlled cars (other then just walking in, and handing over the keys and saying "fix it") I just wanted to see if anyone knows what causes the problem.

thanks again in advance

It very well could be just standard maintenance. The combination of old wire, plugs with too much clearance and a dirty idle air control can cause the delay. If the car is due for a tune up it is a good place to start.
As a general rule you need to see what it is missing while it is cranking. A spark tester and a fuel pressure tester may show the issue. If you show both good then you need to see if you have signal to the injectors. Once you know which thing is not working you have a path to figure out what is causing the issue.

Can you record a video of your car starting up and post it on here ? Or post it on youtube and provide a link.

Like Gorn said, it could be standard issues.

When was your starter last replaced ?

What about your battery ?

Alternator ?

Just adding my 2 cents.

Good luck man...please keep us posted

dude, fuel pressure test it... i just diagnosed an s10 that started slowly and fuel pressure tested it.. went up to 60 and quickly dropped to around 11psi and then slowly rose back up to around 50 before starting.
is it literally starting slowly? meaning cranking over like its about to die? if so, thats a horse of a different colour compared to what im saying. but if its cranking at normal speed, considder what im sayin

how old are the plugs? could just need a new set of good plugs. i would think a good mechanic would check the fuel pressure first so if the guy is then i would say change the plugs and see what happens. oh and spark plugs are a part of the ignition system. lol.

It's cranking slowly... about 3-4 turns... then pops right up. Runs great at all times after that, just a few VERY slow cranks at the beginning.

New battery, just had Alt tested. It is in need of a tune up I'm sure... picked it up this summer, so getting up to speed on what needs to be done.

check all your grounds and clean or tighten. should be one on the block by the starter, there are two at the front of the block one under the belt tensioner and one on the driver side under the coil. also make sure the starter bolts are tight, needs good connection to ground. unhook the battery and wire brush the heck outa the battery cable ends, also clean the wire ends at the power junction box (small red plastic box on the passenger side fenderwell) and the ground junction thats next to it. could be the starter is getting tired and starting to fail.
