Rear main seal?
Alright i have a big oil leak in my 95z28. from what i hear it can be the rear of the intake manifold or the rear main seal. how much labor wise would it be for the rear main seal, because i understand you need to remove the tranny...i dont think i can do that on my own..my brothers friend told me around 400$ and he would put in a new clutch with it. is that a good deal if it is the rear main seal?

RE: Rear main seal?
i'd say that's not a bad price. but i'm thinking its your intake man. i just had the same problem with my car that i had to have fixed. make sure you have someone work on it that knows what they're doing and pays attention to detail

SAME HERE!!! I thought it was the rear main seal but I took it to the Chevy place to get it looked at and they said it was the intake and valve cover gasket. And the estimated repair cost was $946, but they said its not bad enough to need fixing yet. It hardly ever leaks anyway, maybe a drop every two days lol

RE: Rear main seal?
That is a common problem with the LT1 engine. The leak usually takes place where the intake manifold meets the rear of the engine block. There is no gasket used at that point, but it is sealed with black RTV. Apparently the RTV dries out and oil starts to leak down the back of the block. The oil seeps through the bell housing and comes out the drain hole on the bottom cover. This mimics the leak from the rear main bearing seal. So unscrupulous shops or shops with poor knowledge of the problem, will change the rear seal, charge a bunch of money, and the leak is still there.
