I have the $70 cobra one and it works quite well. Saved me a few tickets already.

I have the Valentine One
http://www.valentine1.com/ -- works well, but nothing really helps much with laser. I like that it is directional and shows if the signal is from the front or behind. I don't know if the cheap ones are worth it -- check some reviews before you buy!

When I bought my Camaro and was searching through my car, much to my pleasant surprise, I found a Cobra radar detector, no chance to use it yet though.

Anyway, I was reading R&T (or maybe it was C&D ? ) And they had an advertisement for a radar detector that could defeat the new laser technique. It was $400-500 though.

When it comes to radar detectors, don't cheap out. The cheaper ones (Cobra, Whistler, etc) are terrible because they're not very good and they give you a false sense of security, and eventually they let you down because their sensitivity and range are horrible. Go ahead and buy a used Passport 8500, Valentine One, or top of the line Bel on ebay. I got my Passport 8500X50 used for $200 on ebay. And I know the folks that have the cheap ones will disagree and say their's has saved them COUNTLESS times, but just do your research. The cheaper ones are useless and even worse then not having one (and I've owned the cheap ones as well......never again).

I've never had one of those. How far ahead does it warn you generally? I couldn't see them working and giving you enough room to slow down.

Radar systems are joke. I don't know why anybody would buy one.
