Default Need help choosing which camaro to buy

Hey guys. This is my first post. I'm currently looking at purchasing one out of two camaros. I need help deciding.

93 camaro - 127k miles (rebuilt engine die to guy prior to current owner driving with clogged thermostat, blew head gasket.) He said he took it to a shop to have it rebuilt. Heads milled due to warping and all. It's maroon and has a luxury package??? (Taller wing). Has a little bit of sun fading. I haven't test driven either car yet. He is asking 1500 firm. Won't budge at all on the price. Said he has receipts for everything he has done to the car.

Second is a 94 camaro (daily driver, stated he hasn't had any issues at all. He changed the breaks and rotors. Has almost 150k miles on it. Break light is on, on the dash (said because he bled the breaks??) Said the temp guage and gas guage fluctuates while driving. Said it has done it since the previous owner drove it off of the lot ) it is dark green. Nothing special done to it. Said it was his daily driver. He was asking 1500 but I have him talked down to 1200 cash for it.

Both look nice from pictures sent to me. Both cars are about a 2-3 hour drive from where I live. I don't have the time to go look at both camaros. I just need help deciding which to test drive and what are some known issues with these years? Both have the v6 3.4l.... Just want to make sure I make the right decision.

Eddie

dont know if you can do a compression test but that would be a good idea on whatever one you decide to look at seriously. i would go with the rebuilt if i was going to buy one of them. however i would shy away from the 3.4. the engine has not been used/made for quite some time now so when engine goes you have no choice but to rebuild. to rebuild correctly is not a cheap process and will cost more than the value of the car. look around for a 3.8 camaro, even one with a blown engine, 3.8 with low miles are common and run 4-6 hundred bucks from wrecking yard so you could come out with a very nice camaro for a reasonable price. thats if you do the work.

check for leaks,i would hold out for 3.8 with lower miles there out there just keep eye on caigs list,i had just got 3.8 with 88.000 miles for 2000.00 k i would save an get the one that is going to last you hope .buying any used car can be crap shoot ,but generaly you can tell if someone took care of a car ,like with mine thers about 1000.00 of body work on the passegers side ,a bit more rust then though ,but i think the seller took all that into concideration other wise it could have been 3000.00 ,other day seen a 2000 3.8 had 47000 they wanted $4500.00 make an offer ,i would not buy one with over 100.000 unlesss it was donor .but we are all different ,an iwas looking for donor when i found the 3.8 runing great,an tnhe 3.8 i great on gas ,the z28 is ok but 30 mg to the gallon is better,an you want to make sure they can make that kind drive home if they cant there not worth buying, nothing worse then buying something that breaks down on the way home ,i would find one closer to home to,sorry i would not buy either one just know there out there looks like ,your dealing with the wrong people just wait for desent 3.8 95 or newer

both cars are sixers, there is no Z28

To the OP, you need to confirm with yourself that you will be OK with having a fast looking car which can't outrun most modern SUVs and minivans

Do a search on this site and you'll see a common theme from those who buy sixers...........how do I make it faster.

If you are OK with the lack of performance, then IMO, go with the one with the rebuilt engine

oh yes my bad both 3.4 too ,i would not buy either one ,look for 3,8 or z28 heck i seen z28 130.000 ,had tranny slipping for $800.00 graigs list seems to be the place running to,an for those prices yopu should be able to find a z28,an yes dont plan on makeing a v6 go faster ,other then cat back exhuast an k&n filter bring it from 200hp to 225hp,yes like sadi most v6 cars are makeing 250hp or more these days, for me haveing both v6 an v8 is about the look, where do you live I was looking at graigs list right now ,a 95 134.000 500.00 running they have many under 2000.00 ,one was 92 last year of irocZ had the 350 92000 miles 1600.00 ,this was in the newengland area ,if your looking for one under 2000.00 you will find one graigslist I used to swear off CL but now I got to say the deals are on there just be careful ,an stay away from the 93 94 with 3.4l ,thing with the 3.8 I see one 1600.00 2000 model clean paint 134.000 ,the thing with the 3.8 I learned from a well know guy on hear ,is you can buy an engine with 50.000 miles on for like $500.00 an there all kinds of 3.8 engines that fit from other cars I think it just k vin ,I could be wrong
