The LT1 is about 3" shorter then an carbureted old school small block chevy. To fit a Small block chevy in a 97 you have to cut the cowl and you will most likely need a 2-4" hood scoop. I seriously doubt a 440 would fit under the windshield or between the frame on a 4th gen. If it did fit where would headers go and how would get to the spark plugs. Getting the plugs in and out of a Lt1 is a nightmare because of the frame.

Unless you own a machine shop I would bet even if you got the car and the engine for free I could build a just as fast LSX car for less money then it would take to install the 440 in the 4th gen. I have seen one big block chevy in a 4th gen. It was built by a fabrication shop. If I remember right the price tag was 30k and about 20K of that was custom fabrication.

I'll be more direct to the question

"i was wondering if i can get it to fit in a 4th generation camaro"

answer= of course you can, you need 2 things, time and money

will it drop right in? = no

will it be easy? = define easy, if you budget $100k for someone to fab it, make it safe and do the work then yes and you won't break a sweat. Heck, you probably won't even spend the entire budget

As for me, I'd take the budget I had to do the project in its' entirety including interior, exterior, safety etc and go and buy a brand new Camaro, Challenger and Mustang

Ya I guess "possible" is a relative term. I have seen a 454 in the front of a VW bug. Possible yes, I have noted in the past the people who have the skill and resources to do that type of build tend not to go one public forums and ask if it can be done. They tend to do it and if we are lucky they take lots of pic and share it with us.

yes your better off to find a desent z28 ,these cars don't have enough room under the hood at the fire wall ,with my build if I have issues with needing a new distributer cam gear, we got composite one for the flat tapet cam made for race engines was like $90.00 but said well worth it better then bronze or iron an the right match up ,the engine will have to be pulled to replaced but I should be ok for a long time ,so looking back , would I have done things different now I have to live with it ,it runs great, but it sbc ,that sounds like a ford engine ,I just got lucky so far in alot of ways ,that my mech new a lot about modifying as we went

Sticking a Mopar engine, let alone a 440 in a Camaro would irresponsible and impractical.

Originals are getting harder to find. If you don't want the 440 for your B-body any more (btw Satellites were B-body cars, not A-body), I'd gladly take it off your hands. My old man would love one in his '66.
