Default looking for tire size ideas.

I have a 97 formula firebird. The tires on the back are 245 50r 16. But I want to put as tall and wide a tire as I can put on it. I have extra air shocks if in need to bring it up some. The problem I am having is finding what's the largest tire I can fit on it and where I can find them. None of our local tire shops can finds taller 50s.
Any ideas??

best bang for the buck is to move to 17inch an 275 40 17 ,in the spring you should be able to get a set of four for about $350.00 with the huge rebates they have on ebay to $450.00 ,i now have 255 40 17 all around ,but going back to the staggered ,will put 275 40 17 in back ,anything bigger is not much bigger an cost alot more thirfty not cheap. with a 16in wheel i think its only up to 245 40 16 is as big as you can go ,wich will also have bang for the buck if your staying with 16in ,you should be able to find wider 9.2 inches ,if you can find bigger you will pay alot without going to 17 inch rim ,you can go to zr1 polished aluminum with a set of tires say 255-40 17 $1200.00 is what i paid for mine tires an wheels but you may be able to save buying them seperate or not tire rack Discount tire direct they all have huge sale in the spring an there all on ebay ,but i would wait till spring if you want to save

Without changing wheels, you should be able to get 275/45/16 but they are race specific tires. Otherwise, 255/50/16 is about the biggest you can go. They add a bit of width. I had BFGOODRICH G-FORCE SPORT COMP-2 on mine and really liked them.

the 275 45 16 is near impossible to find an the one set i found $1000.00 a set he might as well move up to 17 inch rim ,otherwise yes its what he has or the 255 is as big as he can go wich is not bad ,a 275 adds about 0.64 of inch higher
