Default Key stuck in ignition (hyndai accent)

I bought a Hyundai Accent for delivering pizzas so I didn't have to drive my Camaro around too much.

Last night the key wouldn't come out of the ignition. It wont go past the accessories mark. I can turn on and off the car... but I cant turn it all the way back to pop the key out.

Any suggestions? And btw I tried all the wiggling and steering wheel turning I could and no luck.

Sorry, but I gotta ask a dumb question. Does the car have a release lever on the steering column, near the key? Some cars have that, where you need to trip a lever or button to be able to turn the ignition all the way back to the off position.

camaro69, my sable is like that, however on my hundai the car has to be in park before i can turn that key to get out. becareful with cutkeys too, the best key that works on the door and ignition is original hundai keys

My sons key is stuck in his ignition right now! The weird thing is, when the temp is warm outside, the key will come out. If the temp outside drops, the key will not come out. Same issue, he cannot turn the key to the lock position. It has been doing this for a few weeks now, but I have not had time to check it out.

Shouldn't this be in the Off topic section?

I agree with 69, look for a little release button on the Column, especially if it's a manual.

If there's not a button or lever, check your transmission. Autos need to be in park, manuals in first or reverse (check your manual). If all that's right, but still not coming out, you either have a problem with the ignition lock itself or with the sending unit in the trans that tells the computer that it's okay to take the key out.

Oh yeah I guess it is off topic. I guess that I'm just used to posting here for all my camaro questions. There is no lever on the column... and I've never had this problem before. So there is some kind of electrical sensor going to the transmission that let's me take the key out? Is that pretty standard on newer cars (it's an 01) or is that on only a few cars?

Thanks for all your input... and btw I like the dynamite idea
