ignition module or coil will do that. i had a ignition module go and it drove me nuts. drive it a couple miles down the road and it would die. id go get someone to tow it home and when we got ready to tow it would start right up. i now carry an extra module in the car. yes a opti going can do weird things and u can get a bad new one especially if its not a gm performance opti. the cheap ones are not reliable.

well i think i figured it out, i took the opti apart and it looked like it had been sitting out in a hurricane. is there any possible way that liquid could get into the vapor lines that go into the opti and the dist cap? if not what would make my water pump seep out that much antifreeze

leaky water pump or coolant hose. many new opti s have had short lives because the water pump was not replaced when the opti was.

i use high temp rvt on the o ring for the cap to help seal it up. i also use electrical grease on all the plug wires and the wire harness inlet. the coolant can set on the inlet and drip in through the seal.
