how to tell if window motor is bad
So a couple months ago i just went to roll my window down and well it stopped working. I was told by the previous owner that they had it replace about 6 months before this happened. The window never gave me any problems. It was always fast unlike the passenger side that still works. Could it be the switch? Whoever did the window motor job was a complete idiot anyway. They left about a 1 inch gap at the bottom of the window and seal on the car so water gets in. Also they decided to take big screws and screw the switch to the door panel. But anyway this might be somewhat of a dumb question but is there anyway of telling or testing to see if my window motor is bad or the window switch?

To test the motor apply 12V to the wires and watch it move. One way will make it go up and if you reverse the wires it will go down. Just watch your fingers.
It also sounds like the guy didnt know how to adjust the window. The little felt things at the top of the door under the door pannel are not only to keep the glass from flopping over when it is not on the gaskets but it also locks the glass in position once it is fully up. These are one of the most important adjustments of the glass, and if not adjusted properly you will not get a good seal around the roof. Also the little triangle that also holds the mirror is a key adjustment for the glass too.

thanks for the help im going to try and figure it out once the weather is better. its snwing now and it has been to cold. i would try to get a pic but my car is covered and under snow. the part of the drivers side window that is flat(straight up and down) on the right side of the door above the handle is what has the gap.(looking at the door from the outside). the window seal pretty good except for a small crack that i used clear epoxy to fix.

I have seen a video of someone bypassing the little breaker in the motor by soldering across the contacts. The sad part is that he did not realize that was what he was doing and just though it was cracked! It did work for him however. Taking the motor apart is very easy, getting it back together is not so easy because of the motor brushes.
