Default How much can a stock 6.0 handle

This is a stock 1/4 million miles 6.0. It was cleanup and I believe the top ring gap was opened. It is also a stock 4L80e with a shift kit and a ford rear from a up pull it lot. Mat has made 800 RWHP before, the stock fuel line became an issue. Mat is a local guy and a friend of a friend, or I should say a friend of my boss. You can follow along on his You tube channel.

Mat is also work on a low budget 500 HP guide

Mat really does not mind putting in the wrench time. Check out his next video, He already has the rod out, His plan is to replace the rod with a used one from one of his other junk motors and have it back running this weekend. Keep in mind that is the base 6.0 there are better, stronger version out there they used in the Denalis.

I am not that into drag racing but he makes it tempting. If you watch his drag video he shoots for 100 ft times. If he ever ran full speed he would get band from the track.

oh yes after some research .the 06 07 impala ss an a 07 monte carlo ss had the 5.3l an came in at 303hp net the impala though has front wheel drive the monte was the last year rear wheel , they should put some 5.3l in the malibu ,its no wonder the impala is way over priced an the monte they only made like 12000 cars i seen one for desent price the impala is ugly, but the monte is a pretty sharp looking car would not mind findeing one very rare though,then the blazer ss with 6.0 an some had 5.3l too

Last year for Monte RWD was 1987.

Keep in mind we are talking low buck LS engines the LS3 6.2 is a beast compared to these motors and is considered the standard for Pro touring cars these days. Which is why the 6.0 LQ4/5.3 LM7 can be had for cheap, because they are so far down the list of what hotroders want. Even stepping up to a LQ9 6.0 can cost you $1000 more than LQ4 with the same miles.

LS1 = 345 hp Stock
LM7 = 285 hp Stock
LQ4 = 300 hp Stock
LQ9 = 365 hp Stock
LS2 = 400 hp Stock
LS3 = 426 hp Stock
Ls7 = 505 hp Stock

There are several variation of the 5.3 and there was a boost in HP rating in 2004 but you get the idea. I believe the SS Truck and SSTrail blazer got the Lq9 along with the Denali's from Cadillac and GMC. Work trucks and work van 3/4 ton and up got the LQ4 instead of the LM7, but that was for the torque not HP.

The LQ9 has higher compression and can be pushed to 500 hp with a Cam Headers and a tune. The Lq4 has lower compression making a better choise for a turbo/supercharger.

the engines may be cheap but there is talk about them going up in different places ,but most all those rides car trucks suvs there pricey still ,other then a good private sale the dealers want big money for a used impala ss i see them going for 9k with over 120k on them is no deal to me, a good ls1 with some the later add ons some ls3 parts an ls6 parts on 4th gen is still the way to go ,as far as the engines up hear yes still cheap for 5.3l or a 6.2 used even a long block is not to bad

Like I said last summer, I am seeing 4th gen shells that are in good shape that are being stripped of the drive lines. It is getting to the point that the cheapest way to find a Aluminum LS1/6 speed is to just buy a 4th gen and strip it.

ah I am pretty sure the Monte is also a front wheel driver on all cars after 1989
also you should be aware you can't use the front wheel drive engines in a rear wheel drive vehicle.

The oddball LS4 is a 325ci version of the Gen IV small block with a different bellhousing bolt pattern adapted for transverse front-wheel drive applications. GM shortened the crankshaft 13mm at the flywheel end and 10mm at the accessory drive end to shorten the length of the engine. The accessories are driven with a single serpentine belt and the water pump is mounted remotely to save space. It uses the same cylinder head as the Generation III LS6 engine. Unless you’re modifying a front-wheel drive car, the LS4 platform is of little value to hot rodders looking for an engine swap.
