Default how to get an LS1 over 500 hp?

over the years i have kicked around the idea of swapping an LS3 into my v6, i have learned along that journey that the only good reason to do that is for uniqueness, there are not many 4th gens i know of with an ls3, because pretty much everything but the body has to be changed. the more i think about it the more i dont want to spend the money or time for that uniqueness so my question.....

what does it take to get the ls1 to 500 hp at the flywheel?

Start with a lot of money and go from their. Expensive work done to the heads, camshaft and valve train to match (expensive heads) then the intake with mods to the fuel system and then some tuning and lastly you need to spin the rpms up to get those numbers.

500 is just a number i threw out, i would not be dead set on it, from what i have researched ls6 heads and intake are the way to go, with a cam that works well with those heads. from there opening up the intake and a full exhaust....im assuming a tune would be in order. would that level of modding get between 450-500? also what are some prices from those on here that have done this stuff?

Wow they are pretty confident in their stuff if they are claiming their heads and cam with an ls6 intake and a tune will jump an ls1 from 340ish to 500.

When you set your budget don't forget the trans and the rear. They will both need upgrading.... On the budget side there have been a lot of people throwing junk yard turbo charger systems together and beating 500hp on stock motors. You would need to find a dyno tuner that will work on that stuff. Hot rod did a turbo build on a 5.3 and did 600 hp on a stock block. These LSX type motors are amazing.

How hot rodding works:
1) Increase power until something in drive train breaks
2) Beef up drive train so it holds power
3) Increase power until drive train breaks again
4) Go back to step 2
5) Go back to step 3
6) Repeat steps 4 and 5 until everything breaks at one time.
7) Get new hot rod from factory, lol

You might be able to get a little over 400 horsepower NA with a really big cam and good heads with a FAST intake, but that will probably cost you 4-5 grand. Most people just take a junkyard 5.3 and boost it.
