Default How to disable Security System

I've got a 97 camaro. it wont start. the mechanic told me that it's the security system that prevents it from starting.

how can you disable the security system? there's this security light that stays on all the time since 2 years ago. but it's just recently that it wont start.

all your inputs are highly appreciated....

Does a solid security light mean a problem in the future? The security light remains solid while the car is running, but the car starts up and runs perfectly. It's been like that since I bought the car a year ago. If it means something is about to fail I want to bypass it before it does. Thanks.

it means someone is trying to steal your car or something is wrong with the security system. you can have the security system turned off at a tune place like pcmforless or at a dealer.

The solid security light means that the car started with a key that it recognized but something went wrong while it was running. In this state, it should restart with that key. I have one with the same issue and I keep putting off fixing it. But from the reading I have done, it is pointing to either the key going bad or the lock cylinder or wiring somewhere in between.

My key is brand new, I had it cut last summer (at the dealership). It looks like some work has been done to the wiring though. Would I be looking at a simple short?

Ohm out the key with an ohm meter. Put the key in the ignition switch and remove the kick panel so you can get to the connector down at the bottom of the steering column. Use the ohm meter at that connection to see if you get the same value as you did on the key. IF you do, then the cylinder is good. Someone could have tried to bypass in the past.

Cool, I'll have to give it a try. It looks like someone who didn't know what they were doing tried to rewire it, so that would probably do it.

First of all you have to unlock the drivers security door of your car. Unlock the door with the lock cylinder from outside. This is the way by which you can stop the alarm.
