Fuel Gauge Reads Improperly

I have 3 different sending units in my 96 and they were all off. I ran out when it hit E but I think from 1/8 tank to E was less than a gallon. The needle did not pass the F till I was almost ½ a tank buy miles. This held the same for all three sending units. I wonder if it is the gage?
Was there change in fuel tanks to the later 4th gens? My 2000 seems to work. It is off F in the first 60 miles and if it is at 3/8 tank it takes about 11 gallons to fill it up. Based on a 15.5 gallon tank that pretty close.

I never even considered that the gauge was supposed to be accurate. Rule of thumb with our Z28 is when the gauge reaches half, it needs about 11 gallons and I know that these cars don't have 21-22 gallon tanks

'93-98 is 15.5 gallon steel tank. '99-up was a 16.8 gallon plastic tank. I think '97 and later gauges read better due to the change of the gauges. My '97 goes to full when I fill up where else my '93 will shoot past that. Either way, when my trip meter hits about 170-180, I go get fuel.

^^ Same here. I reset my trip each time I fill up. I get at least 300 to a tank, highest being 350 if I really drive nice :P I get my first 120 miles over F then the next 120 to half, then the last bit under half goes quick. To the OP, 250 to a tank isn't very good lol. I'd guess the gauge or sensor is messed.
