Dreaded P0420, help please
2000 Camaro 3.8
I bought this car about 3 months ago for really cheap, but it needed a lot of work. It had the p0300 (random misfire on multiple cylinders) after a lot of diagnostics I found the icm was bad. Replaced it and corrected that code and the fact it was running like crap. I also had a code for a fuel pressure sensor and have fixed that. Ive also replaced all the plugs, wires, air filter, brakes, flushed the tranny, flushed the radiator, rebuilt the alternator, repaired broken solder joints in the bcm, replaced the muffler, fixed the exhaust and a handful of other things. So far I really don't have that much invested into the car because I have done it all myself. However when I was doing the exhaust work I found that this car has no cat converter. Its been removed and straight pipe is there. The car runs great since I have done everything to it, but I can't figure out how to get rid of that damn code. I thought I read something about being able to disable the monitoring of the caty system. Has anyone herd of this, and if you have how the hell do you do it???

The code is brought on by the cat missing and/or the possibility that the downstream O2 sensors have been disconnected. This won't affect how the engine runs but will keep the SES lamp on. You could replace the cats and the O2 sensors if they are missing, or use O2 simulators if, or have the rear O2s deleted by having the PCM tuned.

if you want a few extra hp have it tuned out and tuned up at same time. least expensive way is simulators. heres a good mail tuner LT1 PCM Tuning - Welcome!

Appreciate the pointers. Not really interested in spending the money to put a cat back on, so tuning sounds like the best option. I followed the link but Im confused, is it only for the V8 models or can any obd be tuned with it?
