Chirp squeak from belt
Morning all,
Just completed up some work in my car. CHanged all 3 seals on front, changed the spark plugs and added new alternator, belt and power steering pump. All done by me A few days after i noticed a chirp sound coming from the belt area on cold starts. It last until car warms up and a drive a few miles from what i can hear in the inside. I looked it up all over the forums and i cant find any informatino on this. I hear it could be belt slipping and what not. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Good job, Charlie Brown, in your repair.
Chirp is belt slipping probably due to battery being on low charge and alt slipping at first start-up.
You can verify by spraying a dab, real short dab, of WD40 onto the ribs and listen for the disappearance of squeal.
New belt of better quality is needed.

Belt chirps are caused by pulley misalignment. Something you changed (alternator, pump, idler, etc.) is out of alignment with the rest. Use a long "straight edge" to see which one is the culprit. Some alternators come with different pulley spacers to accommodate various engines. The source can be a real pain to locate. Try using a mechanics stethoscope to narrow down the chirp's location.
I don't recommend using anything on the belt, even products that claim to stop the noise. They just don't last, and applying any type of oil or coolant or... on a belt is a death sentence for them.

I am assuming its the alternator. everything elses seems to be in line. The alternator is a rebuilt one so who knows. I am going to swap that out this weekend and also get a new belt as well. I noticed its squeals the most when there is moisture and when i rev the engine. Very frustrating. Ill post info as soon i get a chance, Thanks
