Catalytic Converter Issue
I recently purchased a 2002 Chevy camaro that has been converted to straight pipe exhaust. How much will it cost me to have a shop like the muffler man to cut the straight pipes and put a catalytic converter back in?

Don't put one on.

Did the seller tell you about the straight pipe, and/or did you look yourself before buying to know the car didn't have a cat converter? It's a federal law that you can't remove the cat and any other emissions related parts, weather or not your state does emissions testing. Federal laws trumps state laws. And also by law, a car must be able to pass an emissions test at the time it's sold. If it can't, you the buyer can go after the seller for the cost of bringing the car back to standards. Right now, you don't have any problems since you don't get tested in your area, but it can be a legal or monetary issue when you go to sell. And before anybody tells you the seller is covered by the "as is and shown" law, that doesn't apply to things that are done illegally. If you don't buy that, try VIN tag swapping and see how well the "as is" law protects a seller.
