Default Battery Drain

I never had an issue with my 2000 I took it to a body shop to have some touch up done on it. When I picked it up the shop tech left the key turned and the battery was drained. It jumped right away and everything was fine. Now since then periodically it has no battery power when I try to start after it sits for 24 to 48hrs. I put an OPTIMA red top in in March of 2006 so I dont think its the battery. I am thinkin it may be alternator? but not sure? Any help or suggestions would be great.

Went to SEARS the battery checked out OK. Now I have to figure out whats pullin from it to drain it. Any suggestions other than the basic dome light glove box light stuff? I will probably take it in to the shop to have them run some tests unless anyone else has some at home tricks

You could try putting a multi meter in par with the neg battery cable. See how much is running through it after you shut the car off.

It could be any number of things if you have a parasitic draw. Antitheft modules are good to start with, followed by keyless entry modules. My good friend suffered a periodic drain and after some investigating, I found that his keyless entry module was, for some reason, malfunctioning, this draining his battery. If you had an alternator problem, you'd notice it within a few minutes of driving and ultimately shut down the vehicle. To verift this, start the vehicle and measure the voltage of the battery. It should be constantly charging at 13.5 to 14.5 volts. If so, I'd be more than certain that an alternator is out of the question. If you have time that will allow, try parking the vehicle and checking the battery voltage with a multimeter every 15 minutes for two to three hours (but make sure the engine is not running, or that the key is in the 'ON' position). I'd then record the numbers and get an idea of how much was being lost.
