'02 SS - Cranks, But No Start, Sometimes
#11
My car has always struggled a bit if you just pop in the key and immediately turn over the try and crank it up.
I usually just pop the key into 'run' for about 2 seconds, wait for the fuel pump to stop whining and click off as it builds up pressure, then it has always started without so much a single 'sputter'. Might be a dying pump on my end, but you can always just try that with yours.

No start up attempt for two days.
Bought a HFT fuel pressure gauge, thank you, Gorn, 20% off coupon, and first time OFF to IGN, pressure to 50 PSIG.
She started right up.
Noid set was $80, no thank you, but spark tester, $2. Plenty of spark.
I read the schematics, Ign command to PCM, then splits to fuel, ignition, and fuel pump relay command on. Correct?

I may have seen the price incorrect, but maybe next month on expenses if $40 and use a 20% off coupon.
Pep Boys might sell individually.
Forgot to add, after shut down, fuel pressure dropped to zero after about 4 hours, and as always, the next time it starts, she purrs. So I don't think its a leaky injector.
But, the first time from OFF to IGN, 50 PSIG.

Update here.
Friday, 3/24, fuel had 10 PSIG. and Started on first try 50 PSIG after going from OFF to RUN.
Thank you, Gorn, as I got to thinking, you mentioned engine spinning fast enough during cranking.
Yes, she sounded normal spinning, but I remember in days of old, a battery may spin engine over fast enough, or close to it, there may be not enough power in parallel for supplying other systems and no start.
I thought of this as I have her on battery tender for the past couple weeks and she starts right up for the past few times.
So I thought this may be the problem here, as I did not have on battery tender before, she had an older AC/Delco battery, no build date tag or stamp on the casing, but, it had a 08/09 on the label on top.
Whether or not this was the real date, I doubt it, but battery looked old.
I replaced the battery with an Interstate MT75 - 650 CCA this AM and from Friday's running, fuel was at 30 PSIG this AM and pumped to 50 PSIG before cranking and she started on the first try.
So I shall see - Thank you, Gorn.
