Default LT1 swap carbed please help.

Needing some info, im from the uk and getting parts here is a knightmare and also very expensive, which is why i have to work with what i have.

I have a 1984 z28 with a carbed 350 sbc in it, with terrible smog heads that u have been trying to replace. but cant get any decent vortecs or otherwise over here.

I have been given an LT1 from a 1997 camaro, and im hoping to replace my SBC with it. I cant get the pcm or wiring so was hoping to carb it with what i have.

hoping you guys can point me in the right direction.

1. I dont have aircon in my car so am i right in saying if i get rid of the aircon compressor on the LT1 it will fit straight in? im also running a th350 will it mount straight up to this with the old SBC flex plate?

2: if i get a different intake manifold can i just fit my edelbrook carb and msd distributor?

3:can i use the exhuast manifolds from my SBC?

4: Can i leave the optispark there and will the waterpump on the LT1 plumb up to my radiator etc.

5; can i bolt my harmonic balancer to the LT1 and if so how do i reference the timing.

6: can i fit my sbc power steering pump and alternator to the LT1.

7o i need an electric pump or is there a provision to fit fit the manual pump from the SBC.

Thankyou for your time, i know it would be alot easier to keep the fuel injection etc but its just not possible to get the parts here.

Oh boy, you've got a plumbers nightmare is what you got especially given where you live.
Are you sure the current engine is a 350 and not a 305?
The LT1 is a strong engine but totally different from the GenI smallblocks like what you have.
If I were you I'd sell that LT and invest in some parts for your 350 if that's what you have. That will save a lot of headaches, eBay has zillions of parts and many will ship overseas. The first thing you need to do is identify the engine you have in your car now. A lot of those early 3rd gen Z28's had the 305,not a bad engine but not what I'd want to build given a 350 bolts right in. 350 heads in eBay Motors | eBay

yes the lt1 will fit and should bolt up to a th350. you will need the lt1 motor mounts and a k member that is right for them. i believe the converter is different but not sure. the lt1 is reverse flow so you will need to look at the manual to make sure the radiator is right. lt1 does have an extra hose/hookup at the radiator. you will need to plum in the steam line return and have bleeder valves in the same locations as stock. summit sells a carb intake for the lt1 that has hole for distributor and yes you can just leave the opti. the front balancer is blank in all respects, lt1 is internal balanced in the front and external ballance in the rear so you will need the correct balancer and flex plate.

yeah its a 350 with oversized pistons and smog heads. obviously it woyld be easier to fit other heads but just cant get them, even from people that will ship overseas, the shipping and import comes to a £1000 before actually buying the heads

maybe, depends on how the mounts were installed and what mods were done to the k member.

A few things come to mind, besides the above

Intake may match but there was a change in bolt angle in 86 , the Lt1 intake would be like the 86+intake.

No place to put a fuel pump

Oil pan, the forth gen motor sits farther back the oil pan is designed to fit around the Kmember. You may need to make an oil pan or combine the existing ones.

Water pump will not let you use the brackets off the 350 for you accessories. I not sure the LT1 accessories will fit in the 3rd gen.

All in all it will be a LOT of work with the potential of a lot of fabrication.

Milling off heads and doing a port and polish job on your existing heads seems a lot easier assuming your 350 is in decent shape. I do not remember an issue hitting 325 HP with crappy but worked heads. Finding a good machine shop is key. You will be milling a lot off the heads and making the intake match. They should do all the calculating for you.
