5.3l ls based vortec in my camaro
i also posted this in the engine page but this page may b better....i want to put a 5.3 vortec in my 88 wat do you guys think of this?? i have a newer silverado with the 5.3 in it i love the engine i have little mods done to it and for being in a fullsize truck its pritty quick and i was thinking of buying an engine from one n build it from ground up with a turbo set up and just doing all i can to it..also will i have to custom make mounts or does anyplace have mounts for a swap like this...ive already went from the 2.8 FI to my 355 but i want to do somthing diffrent and i havent seen one of these engines in anything like this...help me out give me some input any suggestions are wanted bad or good

I FEEL YOUR THRILL. I ALSO THOUGHT OF DOING THAT SWAP. BUT YOU ALSO GOT TO TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION OF THE WIRING HARNESS. AND THAT THE ENGINE IS THROTTLE BY WIRE AND NOT BY COMPUTER. TRUST ME THIS SWAP HAS BEEN RUNNING THROUGH MY HEAD FOR ABOUT 5 YEARS WHEN CHEVY FIRST INTRODUCED THE 5.3. IT A GREAT AMOUT OF TORQUE AND THE RESPONSE IS AWESOME WHEN YOU MASH THE GAS.

Why stop at a 5.3L, though? A 6.0L takes up the same space and is probably only marginally heavier.

The 6.0 doesn't have the response of the 5.3. The 5.3 revs a lot nicer then the 6.0. We have a suburban with the 5.3 and it's awesome. Very smooth compared to the 6.0. We have 3 trucks at work with the 6.0. Go for the 5.3. It makes almost the same power and is much nicer. Just my opinion.

lol why stop at 6.0?! get the 8.0 big block in there! lol.. and the allison tranny!

yea i love my truck and i have never had a single problem with my 5.3 i have full exhaust n it soudes great i could only imagine wat it would sound like with a cam n just being worked to the ***** with the turbo set up id love to work the engine in my truck and start running that but i dont see the sense in doing that to a 4wd but ive really wanted to see the kinda power i can get out of one of these and i think puting one in my camaro would b the way to go..now being an ls based motor will most of the internals be about the same as an ls1...beacuse ive looked under 5.3 in many sites and cant find bigger pistons new rods or nething ive found cams rockers and heads and thats about it

Really? Hmm, I'd have attributed that to maybe the fact that pretty much all 6.0L's are in HD GM trucks--not exactly race trucks. The 345HP engines in the Caddy trucks can't be all that doggish, could they?

Th 6.0HO is much better than the normal 6.0, but i'd still go for the 5.3. It's just a better engine. I've heard that they can take more abuse, but don't quote me on that. If it was me i'd rather have the 5.3.
